Vision

Beloved of All
Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.

We hear your heart’s cry for divine guidance, and we stand with you in seeking the Lord’s vision for your life. The scripture you referenced in Proverbs 29:18 indeed reminds us, "Where there is no vision, the people perish; but he who keeps the law is happy." This verse underscores the importance of God’s direction over our own plans. Without His vision, we risk wandering in confusion or pursuing paths that lead away from His will. But when we align ourselves with His Word and His Spirit, we find true purpose and joy.

First, we must address the foundation of your request. It is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and can receive divine revelation. Jesus Himself said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so now. Confess your sins, believe in His death and resurrection for your salvation, and invite Him to lead your life. Without this relationship, visions or guidance from God cannot be rightly discerned or received.

For those who are in Christ, visions and dreams are one of the ways God speaks to His people, as we see throughout Scripture. Joel 2:28 declares, "It will happen afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; and your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams. Your young men will see visions." However, we must approach this desire with humility and discernment. God’s visions are not given to satisfy curiosity or personal ambition but to align us with His purposes. We must first seek His kingdom and His righteousness (Matthew 6:33) and ensure our hearts are pure before Him.

We also want to gently rebuke any misunderstanding that visions are the only way God speaks. The Holy Spirit leads us primarily through His Word, prayer, godly counsel, and circumstances. Visions are a gift, but they are not the sole means of divine communication. We must be careful not to elevate the desire for visions above the simplicity of walking daily with Christ. The enemy can deceive those who seek supernatural experiences without a foundation in Scripture and obedience to God’s commands.

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can approach Your throne. We lift up our brother/sister to You, asking that You would grant them the vision and direction they seek. Lord, we pray that You would open their spiritual eyes to see what You are doing and align their heart with Your will. Remove any pride, selfish ambition, or impure motives that might hinder their ability to hear from You clearly.

Father, we ask that You would speak to them in dreams, visions, or through Your Word, but most of all, that You would give them a deep hunger for Your presence and a willingness to obey whatever You reveal. Guard their heart against deception, and let them test every spirit against the truth of Scripture. Help them to walk in humility, seeking Your kingdom above all else.

Lord, if there are areas of their life that are not surrendered to You, reveal them now. If there is unconfessed sin, bring it to light so they can repent and walk in freedom. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, that they may be sensitive to Your voice and bold to follow where You lead.

We declare that this one will not perish for lack of vision but will walk in the fullness of Your purpose. May they find their joy in keeping Your law and their strength in Your presence. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to spend time in God’s Word daily, for it is a lamp to your feet and a light to your path (Psalm 119:105). Surround yourself with godly believers who can speak into your life and help you discern God’s voice. Be patient, for the Lord often speaks in a still, small voice (1 Kings 19:12), and His timing is perfect. Trust that He who began a good work in you will complete it (Philippians 1:6).

If you are not already part of a Bible-believing church, we strongly encourage you to find one where you can grow in your faith and be accountable to other believers. The body of Christ is vital for spiritual growth and discernment. Do not neglect the gathering of the saints, as Hebrews 10:25 warns us.

Lastly, remember that God’s vision for your life may not always come in the form of a dramatic vision or dream. Sometimes, it is revealed step by step as you walk in obedience to what He has already shown you. Keep your eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2), and He will guide you into all truth.

We're moved by your hunger for God's direction, that desire not to drift after your own plans but to see what He sees. It's a prayer that takes courage, because it means letting go of the reins. We're honored to stand with you in asking for that kind of clarity.

One thing we've learned as we seek God's vision ourselves is that He rarely bypasses the tools He has already given us. His Word, time alone with Him in prayer, and the honest input of mature believers all become channels for His voice. When a sense of calling or a picture of the future stirs in your spirit, it's wise to place it beside Scripture and let trusted, godly people help you weigh it. That doesn't make the prayer for vision less urgent, it gives it safer ground to land on. Those steps of faithfulness often sharpen the very vision you are asking for, sometimes in ways you didn't expect. Keep pouring out that request; He loves being sought like this.

Lord Jesus, thank You for putting this desire into our friend's heart. Grant a vision born of Your Spirit, not just personal ambition. Let it be so anchored in Your Word and confirmed through wise counsel that they can follow with confidence. In the waiting, steady their soul and keep their eyes on You. We trust You to guide each step. Amen.

You have touched upon a matter of deep importance. The vision that keeps the soul from perishing is not the wild imagining of one’s own heart or the pursuit of personal goals, but the clear shining of God’s revealed will and the scrupulous obedience that follows it. Give me but a Word out of God’s mouth, and I can live upon it; but apart from that, all is unsatisfying. The great practical end of the Gospel is to bring the human heart into obedience to Christ, and this is true vision: to see what He commands and to do it. Search out the divine mind in the Scriptures, and let nothing satisfy you but a conscience kept close to that mind, personally, scrupulously, rigidly. The exactness of obedience is the very essence of it.

Are God’s appointments your contentments? Submit your rank, your health, your very ambitions entirely to Him. Half a word from the divine Spirit, the very gentlest motion, should be enough guidance. Do not long for an ecstatic trance, but for the grace to run on your Master’s errands, as those holy women did, and in that way of obedience you shall find Jesus meeting you. The vision you need is to behold His wondrous works in your own life and in the hearts of others, for He has taught His people from their youth to observe these things and wonder. The obedience of faith is a life of the highest honor; it is the glory which our Lord has given to His chosen. May you walk with your hand in the hand of the Lord, even where you cannot see the way, knowing that the first thing God requires of you is obedience, and that such obedience is better than any sacrifice you could bring.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The desire for vision is good if it is the vision of the eye of the soul, not the eye of the body. You quote Proverbs, and rightly, but the vision there is not a private dream to steer your own plans; it is the steady light of God's revealed will without which a people cast off restraint. I do pray for you, but not that you receive such visions as flatter curiosity, because faith suffices instead of all sensible signs. For signs are not for them that believe, but for them that believe not. The prophets saw God in condescension, not in His essence, and those sights were given for the sake of others, to point to Christ. Now that Christ has come, the Spirit is given in baptism, and we need no fiery tongues or heavenly voices to know the will of the Lord.

What you truly need is the healing of the eye of the understanding. The mind made turbid by the confusion of evil thoughts mistakes the object presented to it, just as a disordered eye does. Your own goals are not evil because they are yours, but they become snares when the soul is intoxicated with passion for temporal things and cannot be an impartial judge of truth. So ask rather that God purify your heart, for blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. This is the intellectual vision possible to us, the having of God in the thoughts. Pray that your inward sight be made healthy, that you may see yourself, the world, and the commandments as they are, and that you may desire what God desires. Then your personal goals will either be conformed to His will or fall away like dead branches.

If the Lord in His condescension should send you a vision, as He sent Ananias to Paul or an angel to Peter, receive it with humility and test it by the word. But do not seek a vision as the ground of your obedience. Obedience to the word you already have is the surest path, and the cross of self denial is the clearest vision of God's will. Read the Gospel, fast, give alms, and be silent before the Lord, and He will give light to your mind in His own time and way. For you have a more sure word of prophecy, and if you hear not Moses and the prophets and the apostles, neither will you be persuaded by one rising from the dead.

Therefore I pray for you in the name of Jesus, who is the true Light, that He would open the eyes of your heart to know the hope of His calling, and that you would not follow your own personal goals, but follow Him who said, If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. May the Lord establish you in this vision of faith, which never perishes.
