Too often men cry out for visions when they secretly mean they wish for divine approval upon schemes hatched in the nursery of self. But no vision is of God that runs contrary to that which He has already spoken, and no light within the soul is genuine if it leads you to neglect one jot of His precepts.
Seek not visions merely for the exhilaration of the mysterious, but hunger for that transforming sight of the King in His beauty, for the soul that has seen Christ upon the throne will have its every idol thrown down and its every purpose aligned to His glory. That is the vision which truly saves from perishing, not a map of coming events, but the mastery of Christ over the will. You desire to escape the tyranny of personal goals; then gaze upon the Crucified, and let His wounds be the windows through which heaven's light pours upon your plans.
Yet take heed. If you would be entrusted with holy vision, you must come clean from the sin that does so easily beset you. God will not fight His battles by the uncircumcised, nor will He show His secrets to the soul that harbors known rebellion. Is there any part of the divine will you are neglecting, any command you have placed under the soft pillow of delay? Then you cut the sinew of your own strength, and no vision will prosper. This is no afterthought, but the counsel of His will, that sinners become saints.
If you seek a new vision apart from this, you risk tempting God, like the devil dared Christ to cast Himself down. True vision is not a fleeting sight but the firm purpose of the heart marked with the cross, held fast by faith. For it is not by our own works that we are saved, but by His calling. Therefore, do not trust in your own goals or despair over them.
Instead, offer to God the sacrifice of a broken spirit and a life of obedience. He does not need our burnt offerings; He desires mercy and a heart that listens. If you bewail your own weakness, He will not fail to lift you up. For even when we have labored only an hour, He gives the full reward, not because of our worth, but because of His own goodness.

If you chase visions to find security or a sign, you may find yourself on shaky ground. Instead, let the Scriptures be the lens through which you evaluate every thought and leading. When you speak His truth, you speak with real authority, not relying on your own impressions.

That is the pivot: when you glimpse His glory, your own plans wither, and you become pliable for His purposes. God’s work is not something you plot out and then ask Him to bless. He is the initiator. Your part is to be an instrument in His hand today, paying attention to the people around you and the opportunities to share His love. The world is still sitting in darkness, and the greatest vision is to see Christ’s kingdom breaking in, to be part of His redeeming work. That starts with a simple willingness to walk where He leads, even when the path feels ordinary.
