Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.

We hear your heart’s cry for divine direction, and we stand with you in seeking the Lord’s vision for your life. The Scripture you referenced is a powerful reminder that without God’s revelation, we can easily wander into paths of our own making, paths that may lead to emptiness rather than fulfillment. Proverbs 29:18 indeed declares, "Where there is no vision, the people perish; but he who keeps the law is blessed." This verse underscores the importance of aligning our lives with God’s Word and His purposes, rather than relying solely on our own understanding or desires.

First, we must address the foundation of your request. It is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and can approach Him with confidence. Jesus Himself said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." If you have not yet surrendered your life to Christ, we urge you to do so now. Repent of your sins, believe in Jesus as your Lord and Savior, and receive the gift of eternal life. This is the first step in receiving God’s vision for your life, for it is only in Christ that we are made new and given the Holy Spirit to guide us.

Now, let us pray together for you:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up this dear one to You, asking that You would open their spiritual eyes to see the vision You have for their life. Lord, we know that Your plans for us are good, plans to prosper us and not to harm us, plans to give us hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). We ask that You would remove any distractions, fears, or doubts that may be hindering them from hearing Your voice clearly.

Father, we pray that You would speak to them in dreams, visions, and through Your Word. Give them the discernment to recognize Your voice and the courage to follow where You lead. May they not lean on their own understanding but acknowledge You in all their ways, trusting that You will direct their paths (Proverbs 3:5-6). Lord, we rebuke any spirit of confusion or deception that may be trying to cloud their mind. We declare that Your truth will prevail in their life, and that they will walk in the light of Your vision.

We also pray for humility in their heart, that they would seek Your will above their own desires. Help them to surrender their personal goals and ambitions to You, trusting that Your plans are higher and better than anything they could imagine. May they be like the psalmist who prayed, "Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. Your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness" (Psalm 143:10).

Lord, we ask that You would fill them with Your Holy Spirit, who will guide them into all truth (John 16:13). May they be sensitive to the promptings of the Spirit and quick to obey Your commands. We pray that You would surround them with godly mentors and fellow believers who can speak into their life and confirm the vision You are giving them.

Finally, Father, we ask that You would protect their heart and mind from discouragement or doubt. Strengthen their faith so that they may walk confidently in the vision You have placed before them. May they be a light to others, pointing them to You and Your truth. We thank You for hearing our prayer and for the work You are doing in their life. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

In addition to prayer, we encourage you to immerse yourself in God’s Word daily. The Bible is filled with promises, instructions, and examples of how God speaks to His people. Spend time in quiet meditation, asking the Holy Spirit to reveal His truth to you. Remember, God often speaks in a still, small voice (1 Kings 19:12), so cultivate a heart that is attentive and ready to listen.

We also encourage you to seek fellowship with other believers who can pray with you and provide godly counsel. Proverbs 11:14 tells us, "Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety." Surround yourself with people who will encourage you in your walk with Christ and hold you accountable to His vision for your life.

Lastly, be patient and trust in God’s timing. Habakkuk 2:3 reminds us, "For the vision is yet for the appointed time, and it hurries toward the end, and won’t prove false. Though it takes time, wait for it; because it will surely come. It won’t delay." God’s vision for your life will come to pass in His perfect timing. Until then, continue to seek Him with all your heart, and He will direct your steps.

We understand this deep desire to live by God's direction rather than our own plans. It is a sign of spiritual health when we grow uneasy with simply pursuing personal goals and begin to hunger for his vision. What you are asking for is at the very heart of walking with God.

A practical way to lean into this is to make your request a daily, moment-by-moment conversation with the Lord. As you face a decision or an interruption in your day, you can silently ask, “Father, what would you have me see here? What is your priority in this moment?” We find that God often sows his vision for our lives into the soil of everyday faithfulness, as we offer him our attention. You might also keep a simple journal, not of your plans, but of the quiet impressions, scriptural insights, or promptings to serve that come as you pray. Writing these down can help you test them over time and recognize his guiding voice.

Father, we come with this sincere request. We ask that you fill this heart with your own vision. Quiet the noise of personal ambition and let your purposes become clear. Give a spirit of wisdom and revelation to know you better, so that every step is taken in the light of your will. In Jesus’ name we pray.

God heal me in every area of my life. Deliver and cleanse me of everything in my life that doesn't honor You. Transform and renew my mind. Bless me with love, power, and a sound mind. The very desire for a vision from God rather than chasing your own personal goals is itself a work of His grace upon your heart. You see, as surely as God's will is the axle of the universe, so in grace let us rest assured that He is King, willing to do as He pleases, working in us to will to do of His own good pleasure. Men are not saved against their wills, but the Spirit changes the human will, and so makes men willing in the day of God's power. That you are bid to look for heavenly vision is an instance of mighty grace, and that you are enabled to look at all will be a wonder of Divine love for which you will bless Him.

Yet here comes in an if, and with it a necessary caution. Many speak of vision and mean only a fancy born of their own restless ambition, a scheme to exalt self under a pious cloak. God has said, "Ask, and you shall receive," but if you ask for a thing which merely serves your pride and you do not receive it, this must not be a staggering blow. This is the time when you will faint unless you believe to see the goodness of the Lord even now and here. You must feel that, in any case, God's will must be done. You must still continue to pray, for you do not know what God's will is, but you must pray with resignation, after your Saviour's perfect model in the Garden of Gethsemane: "Nevertheless not as I will, but as You will."

True vision is not a new revelation to puff you up, but a deeper sight of Christ, a burning impression of His Word that consumes your sin and hammers down everything that stands in the way of Jesus. The Word of God is like a fire; it is like a hammer. Not God's Word as declared by certain men, but the Word itself must burn a path before you. Seek that vision which makes you teach what you learn, for if you only hoard it up, it will breed mildew. But if you learn and then teach, that will keep it sweet. So let your prayer be that God would instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go, guiding you with His eye.

And be not deceived by a common error. The first thing God's mercy will do for you will be to turn your face in the opposite direction from your own goals. If mercy shall ever come to you, it will make you a new creation, give you new loves, new hates. Those who hope in His mercy are the same persons as those who fear Him. The vision He gives is not a license to run after dreams while neglecting the plain holiness of His precepts. Sin is like a dung heap, and all your talk of vision will be a dream if you cherish the diseases which spring from the sin you love.

But hear God's promise and lay hold upon it. He has said of those who were not His people, "I will say, You are My people; and they shall say, You are my God." He does not say, "I will if they will," but, "I will, and they shall," for He has the key of free agency and, without violating the will, makes the man willing. His enemies shall be clothed with shame, but upon Christ the crown will flourish. Therefore keep your eye on Him. The King has His own will, and His promise may tarry, but it never fails. Go and read again that wondrous story of God's pardoning love. It will not do you injury. Let this be your vision: to be hid in the secret of His tabernacle, knowing that His sovereignty encloses you, His sacrifice covers you, and His immutability secures you. That is a sight which will never make you ashamed.

You long for visions from God, and you cite the proverb rightly, but consider what that word means. The nation perishes where there is no revealing word from the Lord, no prophetic teaching. That revealing word has now been fully spoken in the Son. To ask for visions as if you lack light is to forget that you already hold the brightest vision of all, the knowledge of Christ crucified and risen, set forth openly in the Scriptures. Why do you grope for private sights when the Sun of Righteousness shines upon you? The believing on Him is no ordinary thing; it needs a revelation from above, and a well-ordered soul to receive it. You have that revelation if you have embraced the Gospel. Pray rather that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened to behold what is already given, not that you may see something new.

Do you think you need a sign to keep you from your own goals? The surest way to perish is to forget God, to carry Him not about in your thoughts. When you remember Him from your own little hill, He gives you to choose good and bring it to its end. That remembrance is the vision that saves. It does not flash before the eyes; it works in the soul that is broken and contrite, offering the sacrifice of praise and hearkening to His will. God has no pleasure in the noise of songs if the heart goes its own way. What He requires is that you do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly. This is the vision that holds you fast to His purpose, not some spectacle.

Think of the holy ones who saw angels. They were not seeking marvels; they were full of faith and in need of specific guidance at the dawn of the new covenant. Yet even then, the greater wonder was not the sight but the word that pierced the heart and exposed its secret thoughts. Now that the faith has been once delivered, do you need a vision to tell you what sin to flee or what virtue to pursue? You have Moses and the prophets, you have Christ and His apostles. The Spirit speaks through them no less than through any dream. Beware of thirsting after extraordinary revelations while the well of salvation stands open before you. That thirst often springs from a hidden pride, as if you would be taught directly apart from the lowly means of preaching and Scripture.

If you would not follow your own goals, then kneel not for a vision but for a will united to the Cross. Ask to be taught by affliction and consolation alike that His power works in you. Reckon that He who called you from darkness by His own purpose and grace will not fail to guide you. He has already given you the pattern of all right living in Jesus. Imitate Him, and you will not wander. This is the true prophecy and the enduring vision: to be conformed to the image of His Son. Go in peace, and seek not new lights, but walk in the light you have.

The book of Revelation calls this “the revelation of Jesus Christ,” a disclosure meant to align our hearts with His will. When you pray for vision, you are really asking to see beyond your own limited aims and into His unshakable kingdom.

That kind of vision flows from a relationship. God created us for His pleasure, and when our spirits are attuned to Him, His desires begin to shape our own. The Holy Spirit works within us so that we respond as Jesus would respond, love as He loves, and become faithful witnesses of His character. That is the outcome of true vision: we stop chasing our own plans and instead represent Him.

I will certainly pray that the Lord grants you this clarity. But remember that His Word is already the primary lens through which He reveals His heart. As you search the Scriptures, the eternal God, who is and was and is to come, shines light on your path. He promises that if you seek Him, you will find Him, and He will write His own name upon your life, anchoring you to the new Jerusalem that is coming down from heaven.

Keep asking, keep knocking. The very desire you have for His vision is evidence He is drawing you nearer. And as you receive that insight, you will discover that living for Him, not for your own goals, becomes your greatest joy.
