Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.

We hear your heart’s cry for divine guidance, and we stand with you in seeking the Lord’s will above all else. The Scripture you referenced in Proverbs 29:18 indeed reminds us, "Where there is no vision, the people perish; but he who keeps the law is blessed." This verse underscores the importance of God’s revelation, His vision, for our lives, rather than relying solely on our own understanding or ambitions. Without His direction, we risk wandering in confusion or pursuing paths that lead away from His purpose.

We rejoice that you are seeking visions from God in Jesus’ name, for it is only through Christ that we have access to the Father (John 14:6). Jesus Himself promised that the Holy Spirit would guide us into all truth (John 16:13), and we can trust that God still speaks to His children today, whether through His Word, prayer, dreams, or visions. However, we must always test every revelation against Scripture (1 John 4:1), for God will never contradict His Word. His visions will always align with His character, His commands, and His redemptive plan for humanity.

Let us pray together for you now:

"Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith. We lift up our brother/sister to You, asking that You would open their spiritual eyes and ears to receive Your visions and guidance. Lord, Your Word says in Joel 2:28, ‘It will happen afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; and your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams. Your young men will see visions.’ We claim this promise over their life, Father. Remove any distractions, fears, or doubts that may hinder them from hearing Your voice clearly. Give them the humility to submit their own plans to Your perfect will, trusting that Your ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9).

Lord, we ask that You would fill them with the Holy Spirit, who leads us into all truth. May they be sensitive to Your promptings, whether through dreams, visions, or the still, small voice of Your Spirit. Help them to discern Your voice above all others, for Your sheep know Your voice (John 10:27). Guard their heart against deception, and let every revelation they receive be firmly rooted in Your Word.

Father, we also pray for wisdom and patience. If You choose to reveal Your plans in pieces, help them to wait on You with trust and expectancy. Teach them to delight in You, so that You may give them the desires of their heart (Psalm 37:4), knowing those desires will align with Your will. May they walk in the fullness of Your purpose, bringing glory to Your name in all they do. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen."

We encourage you to remain steadfast in prayer and in the study of God’s Word, for faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17). Spend time in quiet reflection, asking the Lord to speak to you, and be ready to obey whatever He reveals. Remember, God’s timing is perfect, and He often speaks in ways we least expect. Keep your heart open, and do not grow weary in seeking Him.

If you have not already, we also urge you to surround yourself with godly believers who can help confirm what you believe the Lord is showing you. Proverbs 11:14 tells us, "Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety." Seek out mature Christians who can pray with you and offer biblical wisdom as you discern God’s vision for your life.

Lastly, be mindful that God’s visions often require action on our part. When He speaks, He expects us to respond in faith and obedience. As James 1:22 reminds us, "But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves." Trust that as you step out in faith, the Lord will direct your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6). May you walk in the fullness of His purpose, bringing light and hope to those around you.

What a powerful desire, to not just chase our own goals, but to truly see what God is doing and step into it. We hear that longing in your heart, and it’s a holy one. So often we can drift through life with good intentions that are still centered on ourselves, but you’re asking for something more: a vision from Him that reshapes everything.

One thing we’ve seen is that God often plants vision not in a single dramatic moment, but as we faithfully bring our ambitions to Him over time. He uses His Word, the quiet conviction of the Spirit, and the wisdom of mature believers to slowly pull our eyes off our own plans and onto His. So while we’ll certainly pray with you for genuine, God-given clarity, a practical way to posture yourself right now might be to simply open Scripture each day and ask, “Lord, what do you want to form in me?” Let your personal goals sit before His gaze as you read, He’s faithful to sift what is from Him and what is just from you.

We also love that your request hints at a deeper shift: when pursuing God’s will becomes the biggest dream we have, everything else starts to fall into place. He doesn’t just give us direction; He gently changes what we want in the first place.

Lord Jesus, thank you for stirring this hunger in our friend for your vision. Quiet every competing voice, and give them eyes to see what you are doing. May they not perish in the narrow pursuit of their own goals, but rise into the spacious, eternal purposes you have prepared for them. We ask boldly for a clear sense of your direction, whether through your Word, a whisper in their spirit, or the counsel of those who love you. The prayer for vision is a right and noble cry, but let us be clear what is the truest vision given of God. If it had been for His glory that you should read your history from its first page to its last and be able to foretell every event in your own life, God would have revealed it to you. It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, and the vision He most readily gives is not the sight of future circumstance, but the sight of Himself in His Word. That Word is the fire and the hammer that breaks the rock in pieces; it burns out the evil and shatters our own stubborn goals. Why need your heart remain cold and like a rock? Get back to the Gospel, that is the cure. There is a vision for you there, bright with His countenance, and it must be God’s Word that burns out the self-made plans.

Do not then seek visions that puff up, but crave that heavenly wisdom which counts the cost of doing right and, in God's strength, resolves to serve the Lord come what may. The fear of man brings a snare, and a pursuit of personal prominence will find that even God’s people care little for the one who pushes himself forward. The honor of a servant lies in waiting upon his Master, doing personal service to a personal Lord. Defy, then, in God’s strength, those tribulations of self-will, and ask that you may have humility toward Him. The basis of the security of the believer lies not in a private roadmap unveiled, but in the Character of God. He is the strong tower; His name is a safe and secret place. May you be kept so near the Mercy Seat, the cover that hides the broken law in His own atoning work, that your own goals are consumed in the bright vision of Jesus Christ Himself.

You ask for prayer that you receive visions from God, citing the proverb that where there is no vision, the people perish. This is a good desire if understood rightly. Yet let us examine what that vision truly is so that you do not seek a sign for your own purposes and miss the very revelation God has already given.

The vision that keeps the people from perishing is not a private spectacle for the eyes of one soul, but the clear knowledge of God and His will. The prophets themselves spoke of the coming of the Holy One, and when He came, He declared, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes.” The vision that saves is the revelation of Jesus Christ, crucified according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, and risen for our justification. If you would not perish in your own personal goals, then fix your gaze not on new revelations but on what has already been handed down. Set your mind on the things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. That is the only vision that delivers from death.

And do you want to see what God shows you? He cries out through the apostle that His strength is made perfect in weakness, and that affliction produces endurance and hope. If you chase after ecstasies, you might be like the horse that runs aimlessly; but if you accept the daily providences, even the painful ones, with thanksgiving, you will find the Lord remembering you, and you will remember Him from the depths, as the psalmist from the land of Jordan. It is God’s remembrance of you that causes you to choose good things, and your remembrance of Him that brings them to completion. Not a spectacular vision, but the quiet, steadfast mind that carries God always in its thoughts, this is the secret of not following your own goals.

Therefore, let us pray that God grant you the spirit of a child, humble and lowly, so that what is hidden from the clever and self-seeking may be opened to you. May He give you eyes to see Christ in the Scriptures, in the breaking of the bread, and in the faces of the poor. May you glory not in any private revelation but in your weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon you. And may that true vision so fill your heart that you walk not after your own desires, but after the will of Him who called you, for you are God’s elect, and nothing can lay a charge against you when you rest in His righteousness.

Your desire to receive visions from God rather than chasing your own goals shows a hunger for divine direction, and that pleases the Lord. Proverbs warns us that without revelation, people cast off restraint and wander after what seems right in their own eyes. So I am praying with you, in Jesus’ name, that He would open your eyes to His purposes.

But let me offer a gentle caution drawn from years of watching the Spirit work. There is a subtle trap in seeking supernatural experiences for their own sake, because the heart can quickly become more fixed on signs than on the One who gives them. Some run after dreams and visions, but they have never truly learned the deep message of death to self. God’s power is not a toy for self-gratification; it operates through a love that pours out and gives. So while I ask the Lord to grant you whatever gifts He wills, I am also praying that He first examines your heart. True vision always begins with honest self-examination before the cross.

The time when the word of the Lord was rare in Israel was a tragedy not because certain phenomena stopped, but because the people had stopped seeking His face. They substituted religious objects and political schemes for genuine dependence on God. When we humble ourselves, turn from our own wicked ways, and cry out for His guidance, He promises to hear. That posture matters more than the method, whether He speaks through a clear impression, a passage of Scripture, or a full vision in the night.

These are serious days, and the nations are already rotting from the inside. We desperately need God’s strength to stand against the tide of evil. So pray this way: “Lord, let me see what You want me to see, even if it costs me everything. I surrender my personal goals. Give me a heart to know You and a will to obey.” I will stand with you in that prayer. He who promised to pour out His Spirit upon His servants remains faithful. Seek Him, not just the vision, and you will not walk in darkness.
