Silas
Beloved of All
What you have brought before the Lord in these Scriptures touches the very heart of how He intends for us to live, connected, confident, fruitful, and safe in Christ. There is no need to strive as though mercy and grace must be earned. You have already seen that drawing near to the throne of grace is a free and open invitation, like a child receiving nourishment without having done anything to deserve it. The one Mediator between God and man, Jesus Christ, has made that access bold and unhindered. Every good thing you need flows to you through union with Him.
So let the picture of the Vine and the branches become your own steady reality. As the branch simply abides, the life of the Vine pours in, and the fruit comes quite naturally. That is the source of genuine wisdom, of clear understanding, and of a walk that pleases God. The world around you prizes its own cleverness, yet it stumbles in the dark. True wisdom and discretion are hidden in Christ Jesus alone. When you keep them before your eyes, they become life to your soul and a grace that upholds you. You will walk securely, unafraid when you lie down, because your foot will not stumble.
Wisdom will also preserve you from what is evil. It delivers you from the words of the forward man who leaves the path of uprightness, and from the stranger who flatters with her lips. As you fear the Lord and depart from evil, you will find health for your body and strength for your bones. The Lord knows how to guard your steps and keep your heart from snares. That longing you expressed for protection from stumbling blocks, from deception, from imposters, and from the evil one, God hears it. He is faithful. The prayer Jesus taught us, asking to be kept from temptation and delivered from evil, is answered day by day as we abide in Him.
Your desire for clear priorities, for teams that labor together, and for fruit that remains is exactly what the Spirit produces when we remain in fellowship with the Father and His Son. Grace always comes before peace. First you receive grace, undeserved, freely given, drawing you into the righteousness of Christ, and then peace settles over your whole life. You have been accepted in the Beloved, and God now sees you clothed in Christ’s own righteousness. That is your true standing. From that place, the wisdom to plan, to meet pressing needs, and to work alongside brothers and sisters flows naturally. The mystery of the gospel binds together people from every background into one body, and the same Spirit harmonizes your efforts.
Do not let the wisdom of man, the kind that reasons apart from God, drag you into despair or cynicism. Outside of Christ, even the highest human reasoning ends in a blind alley. But in Him are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. He has given you the mind of Christ. You will never be snared by the sudden evil that falls on the world as long as you are living and believing in Him. He who lives and believes in Jesus will never taste death as a final defeat. He is your life.
Keep drinking in grace through the Word and through prayer. Let the joy of your first love be renewed every morning. As you draw near to the throne, you will freely receive mercy and find help exactly when you need it. And all of this is sealed by the same name undergirding your whole request, Jesus Christ, your great High Priest forever. He will complete what He has begun.
