The Lord Chiding His People
God disciplines His children out of love, not anger, to correct and refine them for their good.
The Putting Away of Sin
Christ alone removes all your sin forever through His sacrifice, bringing you true peace with God.
Mary Magdalene
Even in the deepest despair, Christ’s power can free you and turn your life into a testament of His grace.
We hear the deep pain and hurt in your cry and we join with you in seeking the Lord's will together in Jesus' name. We understand the desire for justice when you have been treated very badly, and we grieve with you over the wrong that was done to you and to others.

Yet we must gently correct and rebuke the desire to see this man punished out of vengeance, even while we fully agree in praying for his mighty conviction and genuine repentance. The Word tells us that vengeance belongs to the Lord and not to us. Vengeance is mine, says the Lord, I will repay Romans 12:19. We are instead called to love our enemies and to pray for those who mistreat us. But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you Matthew 5:44, and again Bless those who persecute you, bless, and do not curse Romans 12:14. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good Romans 12:21. Our prayer therefore is not that God would harm him, but that God in His mercy and justice would bring holy conviction by the Holy Spirit so that this man might see his sin, turn from it, and be saved.

We do join you in praying for his soul, for we know the Lord desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth 1 Timothy 2:4 and that He is not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance 2 Peter 3:9. We pray for true godly sorrow that leads to repentance, for a new heart and a new spirit. I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you Ezekiel 36:26. We agree that all that is not of God, including the worship of false gods and idols, must be cast out, for there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12, and Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. A Muslim faith, its teachings and its gods, cannot save, and we pray that the eyes of his heart would be opened to see that Jesus Christ alone is Lord and Savior, and that he would turn from every false way and follow Christ fully and sincerely.

We also want to speak to your heart about relationships. We do not know the full nature of your relationship with this man, but we see he is not a believer in Jesus Christ. Scripture is clear that we are not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers 2 Corinthians 6:14. Courtship should be entered into with the purpose of finding a godly spouse, a fellow believer in Christ, looking toward a lifelong marriage between a man and a woman that honors God, as marriage is to be held in honor among all Hebrews 13:4. If there has been any intimacy outside of marriage, we must call that what Scripture calls it, fornication, and encourage repentance and purity going forward, fleeing sexual immorality 1 Corinthians 6:18. The Lord wants to heal you and guard your heart as you seek a spouse who loves Jesus first.

We also pray for you, that the Lord would heal your wounds, help you to forgive even as God in Christ forgave you Ephesians 4:32, and free you from bitterness, so that you may walk in peace and joy regardless of what this man chooses to do.

We pray together now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only mediator and Savior. Lord, You see the pain that has been caused and You are a God of perfect justice and perfect mercy. We ask that You would convict this man by Your Holy Spirit of sin, righteousness and judgment, that You would remove his heart of stone and give him a heart of flesh, that he would come to his knees in genuine and sincere repentance, confessing all his sins and turning from them. We pray that You would deliver him from every false god, every idol, every false teaching, and draw him to the truth of Jesus Christ, that he would confess with his mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in his heart that You raised Him from the dead. Cast out all that is not of You from his mind, body, soul, spirit and life, and make him the man You created him to be, walking in holiness and truth. And Father, we also ask that You would heal the one who was hurt, comfort her heart, help her to release vengeance to You, to forgive, and to be made whole, guarding her steps toward a godly marriage if it is Your will. Let Your will be done in both lives, for Your glory. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to pray for his salvation with love rather than for his destruction, trusting that God will deal justly, and to rest in the Lord's promise that He will repay and that He works all things for the good of those who love Him Romans 8:28. Keep your eyes on Christ, remain in His Word, and seek fellowship with believers who can support you as you heal.

We hear how deeply you have been hurt, and how urgently you want to see things made right. When someone treats us badly, it is natural to want God to step in quickly and force a change, and to feel that we cannot rest until that happens.

We have found that holding tightly to the hope that another person will be punished or stripped of peace can keep our own wound open. It keeps us tied to that person and to the pain, and over time that hurts us more than it helps. Releasing the need for payback does not mean what happened was okay, it means we give the whole situation back to God to handle in His way and free our own hearts to heal.

It may help to set aside a quiet time each day to tell God honestly, in your own words, what you are feeling and what you need for healing and wisdom going forward. If you have a trusted pastor or counselor, consider sharing this burden with them so you do not carry it alone. Letting someone walk with you can bring perspective and steady support.

Father, we lift this hurt to You. We ask You to bring comfort and healing where there has been deep pain, to guard this heart and give wisdom for each next step, and to work in both lives according to Your will and Your mercy. Bring peace that comes from trusting You with justice and with the future. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

Your prayer has been heard, and the deep hurt that prompts such urgency is not hidden from the Lord who heals the broken in heart and binds up their wounds.

It is right to bring before God the wrong that has been done to you, and it is right to desire that the one who has wounded you should come to know Jesus Christ as the only way of salvation, for there is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved. Yet the Word of God teaches us to be careful how we pray in our anguish. Vengeance belongs to the Lord, and He has said, I will repay. We are taught to pray for those who have despitefully used us, not that God would punish them according to our pain, but that He would have mercy upon them and upon us.

There is a better prayer than that God would take away all peace and joy until a man is crushed. The Scriptures declare, there is forgiveness with Him, that He may be feared. Where God draws no limit, we must not draw any, for there is forgiveness even for great sin. Jesus Christ is not a sham Savior for sham sinners, but a real Savior who offers a real atonement for real sin, for gross crimes and shameless offenses. He was exalted to be a Prince and a Saviour to give repentance and forgiveness of sins, and He freely forgives for His own sake, not for ours, when a poor sinner comes to Him. That forgiveness is to be had now, for now is the accepted time, and it takes no long season for God to forgive when the heart looks to Christ.

True repentance does not come because we have asked God to arrest and torment a soul, but because the Holy Spirit shows a man what his sin has done in piercing the Christ of God. They shall look upon Him whom they have pierced, and shall mourn for Him as one mourns for an only son, and be in bitterness for Him as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn. When a man rightly sees Christ on the cross dying for guilty sinners, he mourns not because he has been made miserable by our cursing, but because he has slighted such extraordinary love. That godly sorrow is the gift of God, and it leads to life.

Your bleeding spirit also cries for consolation. All other sufferings may find their center in one breast, yet if the heart be broken by the Holy Ghost for sin, salvation will be its ultimate issue. But a heart broken only by the wrong of another needs the same Physician. He calls you to seek first your own healing and forgiveness at the foot of the cross, and to leave the judgment of another in His hands. As you have been forgiven for Christ's sake, so you are enabled to forgive, and to pray not for punishment but for mercy.

Let us pray then according to the will of God.

Lord, You know the pain that has been suffered and the wrong that has been done. We ask You to have Your way in both lives according to Your holiness and love. Bring to this man, if it be Your will, the true conviction of the Holy Spirit, that he may see his sin, turn from every false hope and every false god, and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ alone for salvation. Grant him repentance that is sincere and genuine, not forced by distress but wrought by looking upon Christ crucified. And for the one who has been wounded, grant healing for the wounded spirit, forgiveness as she trusts in Christ, and a new joy that comes from knowing that there is forgiveness with You. Teach her to rest her cause with You who judges righteously, to forgive as she has been forgiven for Christ's sake, and to walk in purity and peace before You. Make each life what You would have it to be, and let Your name be hallowed in all things, for Jesus sake. Amen.
