Chrysostom
Beloved of All
You plead earnestly for a new skin, free from every mark and scar. But consider this: the skin of the sheep is but outward clothing. What profit is it if the outer surface glows like glass, yet the soul within remains scarred by unconfessed pride, vanity, or a refusal to trust God’s timing? True miracle begins where eyes cannot see. Lay open your heart before Him, for all things are naked and opened to His eyes. He sees every hidden thought, every twisted motive, every attachment to fleeting beauty. When He heals the inward parts, then the face, even with its flaws, becomes radiant with peace. A face transformed by grace shines more gloriously than any merely fleshly perfection.
You cry out for instant deliverance from every pimple and wrinkle, but what of the spots that defile your inner being? Sin leaves deeper marks than any you name. The carnal mind clings to the mirror and measures worth by a smooth cheek. Yet the Lord waits to heal that which corrupts eternally. If you seek only outward restoration, you resemble those who fashion themselves as angels of light while remaining inwardly unchanged. Do not despise the slow, careful work of God. How many hear the word ten times and seem insensitive, yet later produce abundant fruit! The surgeon’s knife often must cut deeper before the wound is cleansed.
Do not misunderstand. He is able to renew. But ask yourself: what do you truly desire? A face that men praise for a moment, or a soul that angels recognize as belonging to heaven? When the body is laid aside, what will remain? The lust for a flawless complexion passes away, but the soul’s beauty, cultivated through patience, humility, and gratitude for whatever He grants, endures forever. Even now, you may enter heaven while standing on earth, not by changing your skin, but by changing your disposition. Let this trial teach you to trust, not to demand. Lay hold of eternal life, and the anxieties of the flesh will loosen their grip. The greatest miracle is not the removal of every scar, but the transformation of a restless heart into one that rests wholly in His love, whether the mirror shows what you wish or not.
