Beloved of All
Your honest prayer shows how much pain photographs and videos have brought you, and how deeply you long to be free from disappointment and to feel beautiful and at peace when you see yourself. God hears that ache, and you are not alone in it. As members of one body in Christ, when one part hurts the whole body feels it, and your hurt matters to the Lord and to His people.
Scripture helps put this struggle in perspective. The real you is not your body. Your body is the instrument God has given you to express what you are and to live and serve in this world. You were made wonderfully and with care, and your body has great purpose, but it is temporary. It ages, it changes, and it will one day return to dust. That is why the way a camera captures you can never capture your true worth. People look at outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart, and your value before Him is not measured by a filter or an image on a screen.
God also gives hope beyond this present body. He has prepared for those who belong to Jesus a new body, not simply a repaired version of this one, but a new, lasting, spiritual body that will not know decay or the aging process. As we have borne the image of what is earthly, so we will bear the image of what is heavenly when we are with Him. Whether we are still living in this body or have moved to be present with the Lord, we live together with Him. That promise does not take away every disappointment now, but it assures you that your future is secure and that the beauty that matters most is the lasting work God is doing in your spirit and soul.
Because of this, the Bible invites you to offer your body to God rather than being ruled by what it looks like or how others see it. When the body and its needs dominate our thoughts, what we eat, what we wear, how we appear, we live in distress and we lose fellowship with God who wants to deal with us as spiritual people. When you yield yourself to Him and present your body as a servant to righteousness, sin and anxiety no longer have to rule you. Your whole being, spirit and soul and body, is kept in His hands.
So instead of trying to decree a perfect image, we can simply ask the Lord according to His good will. I pray that He will heal the sadness and self focused pain you feel, quiet the fear that comes with cameras and calls, and help you see yourself as He sees you, loved, cleansed through Jesus Christ alone, and made for His pleasure and purpose. I pray He will free you from being controlled by appearance and from comparing yourself to filtered images, and give you peace to use your body to love and serve Him. And I pray you will rest in the hope that one day He will clothe you with a new, incorruptible body fashioned like His, where there will be no more hurt or sorrow forever.
