We hear the urgency and pain in your request and we join with you in prayer before our heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ. We understand how deep the hurt and disappointment can feel when photographs, selfies and video calls do not reflect how you hope to be seen, and how much you long to feel beautiful and at peace with how God has made you.

We want to gently share what Scripture teaches about beauty and about how we come to God in prayer. The Bible tells us that God does not measure us as the world does. But Yahweh said to Samuel, Don't look on his face, or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him, for I don't see as man sees. For man looks at the outward appearance, but Yahweh looks at the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7. And we are reminded, Let your beauty be not just the outward adorning of braiding the hair, and of wearing jewels of gold, or of putting on fine clothing, but in the hidden person of the heart, in the incorruptible adornment of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. 1 Peter 3:3-4. Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears Yahweh, she shall be praised. Proverbs 31:30. You are already fearfully and wonderfully made, I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. My soul knows that very well. Psalm 139:14. Your worth is not determined by a filter or a camera, but by being created in the image of God and deeply loved by Him.

We also want to lovingly correct the idea of decreeing and declaring to demand that God must end all hurt and make us look a certain way forever. We do not command God, we humbly ask Him and submit to His perfect will. Scripture says, For you ought to say, If the Lord wills, we will both live, and do this or that. James 4:15. Jesus Himself prayed, not my will, but yours be done. Our role is to bring our requests with thanksgiving and trust His wisdom and timing, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7. God has not promised we will never again feel disappointment or sadness in this life, but He has promised to be near to us in it, Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 34:18.

We encourage you to find your identity and confidence in Christ rather than in images on a screen. Filters and social media often create an impossible and false standard that breeds comparison and sorrow. True and lasting beauty comes from knowing you are loved, forgiven and renewed in Jesus. As you seek Him, He will give you peace about how He has made you and help you to see yourself through His eyes.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we lift this dear one to You in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, through whom we have access to Your throne of grace. We ask You to heal the hurt, pain, sadness and disappointment that photographs and videos have caused. Lord, quiet the critical voice and the spirit of comparison, and replace it with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Help us to see ourselves as You see us, fearfully and wonderfully made, precious in Your sight, and to value the gentle and quiet spirit that You cherish more than outward appearance. Forgive us when we try to command You instead of trusting You, and teach us to pray, Your will be done, with faith that You know what is best. Give rest to this heart, guard thoughts in Christ Jesus, and let joy be found not in looking better than a filter, but in knowing we are Yours and that You look at the heart. Draw us closer to Jesus each day and let His love be the mirror in which we see our true worth. We ask all this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

We hear how heavy this has felt for you, and how much pain photographs and video calls have been bringing. Wanting to feel at peace when you see yourself, and to be free from that hurt and disappointment, makes complete sense to us. We are praying with you for that relief.

It can help to know that what we see in filters and on cameras is not the same as how others actually see us in person. Filters especially create an ideal that no one lives up to day to day, and the more we compare ourselves to them, the more our own face can feel wrong, even when it is not. Your worth before God is not measured by how a photo turns out.

One small step that often helps when this anxiety spikes is to give yourself some space from the things that trigger the comparison. You might consider stepping away from filters and from retaking selfies for a few days, and noticing how that affects your peace. If you can, share honestly with one trusted mature person in your life about how you are feeling when you look at photos, so you are not carrying this alone.

Father, we bring our friend to You and ask for Your calm and kindness over her heart. Quiet the fear and self criticism she feels around being seen, and help her to know she is seen and valued by You. Give her rest, clear perspective, and wisdom for each day ahead. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your cry of hurt and distress over photographs and images has been heard, and we desire to bring your burden before the Lord in a way that seeks His true healing.

You speak of pain and disappointment whenever you see yourself in selfies and video calls, and of a longing to be made outwardly beautiful beyond all filters. This sorrow is real, and it shows how deeply the heart can be wounded by what the eye sees. Man is a double being, composed of body and soul, and each may receive injury and hurt. We are quick to seek a physician for the body, yet the deeper wound is often within the soul, where restless desires and fears do dwell.

Know this, that the least thing about Christ is healing. Not only is His fruit sweet and nourishing, but the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. The very leaves, the little things about Christ, are full of healing virtue. These healing leaves change the life blood, affect the spirits and make the nature other than it was before. Calvary is the place for the healing balm. When we see our Lord bearing our sins in His own body on the cross and blotting out our faults forever by His death, then the spirit glows with love and the heart dedicates itself wholly to Jesus.

Scripture teaches that pardon and healing are one. When Jesus healed the sick of the palsy He said, Son, be of good cheer, your sins are forgiven you. He knew what really ailed the man, that he was palsied in spirit as well as in body, and Christ removed the root of his disease by forgiving his sin. In the same way, the Sun of Righteousness rises upon His people with healing in His wings. O you who are now sick with sorrow, ask to be forgiven and healing will come from the pardoning hand.

We cannot ask the Lord to make every part of the outward appearance to be as you have decreed, for that would be to ask Him to serve vanity. The word warns us against such self regard. Every Christian, in proportion as he lives near to God, will feel a lowliness of heart and say, Look not upon me. There is a danger of self neglect when we become keepers of outward vineyards while our own vineyard, the soul, is not kept. As for the body, it will perish, but the inward man is renewed day by day. We that are in this body do groan, being burdened, till the day of our full redemption. The body is dead because of sin, but the spirit is life because of righteousness. True comeliness is not found in filters or in the praise of the eye, but in being renewed after the image of Him who created us. The hearing ear and the seeing eye, the Lord has made even both of them, and to be made to see His grace is the gift of God.

So we will pray not for a more flattering image in a glass, but for a healed heart and a quiet spirit that rests in Christ.

Our prayer for you is this, that the Lord would forgive your sins through the blood of Jesus Christ alone, for there is salvation in no other, that He would apply His healing leaves to your wounded spirit, that He would lift the fever of restless desire for outward perfection and give you contentment in being fearfully and wonderfully made, that He would turn your eyes from excessive looking upon self to looking upon Christ, where true beauty and peace are found, and that He would keep your soul in holiness while you sojourn in this body, until He shall clothe you with a glorious body like unto His own at the resurrection.

Cast your whole self, body and soul, upon the heavenly Physician. Seek Him in His word, hear believingly and obediently, for faith comes by hearing, and healing comes with the teaching of Christ. May the Lord give you to find your worth not in a photograph, but in His pardoning love, and may that love make your countenance to shine with the inward grace which no filter can give.
