Verbal prayer vs silent prayer

There are times when I think of somone, and I may.silently, to myself, pray for their salvation. But mostly I hear people pray out loud. Now I wonder, since Gods knows our thoughts and intents , is it mandatory to pray out loud? Will a silent prayer be just as effective? Is there a scripture that says that prayer must be out loud to be effective?Wondering….

While yes we can pray silently in our hearts yet Jesus spoke out loud for certain things, healings, peace be still etc. I'd say it is more effective for certain prayers to be spoken than silently in our hearts.

We must follow what Jesus did. He is our role model concerning private prayer and open prayer. Jesus loved going to a deserted place and pray and talk to His heavenly Father. What did He say? Did He talk aloud or just murmur? On the other hand, Jesus prayed on the cross for the thousands of people who were around Him watching Him suffer. Jesus said. Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do. We must do what Jesus did. When loneliness sets in and you are all left alone by friends and loved ones, then, pray in secret to your heavenly Father and He will bless your life openly bringing everyone you have prayed for and saving their souls. In church, in the middle of the congregation, when an altar call is made, pray aloud for those who went to the altar and gave their life to Jesus. He will hear from heaven and will save all of them.

There is no biblical reason to believe that praying out loud is more or less effectual than praying silently. Jesus also taught His disciples that our Father hears our prayers offered silently or in secret. There are however, good reasons why we would do well to pray silently on some occasions and aloud on others. Jesus warns His disciples about the hypocrites who love to pray in public places in order to be seen by others. Hypocrites are devoid of secret prayer; the one who love God, however is constant in secret prayer and ready to pray aloud when a proper occassion arises.

God Knows Your Thoughts - Psalm 94:11—If God knows our thoughts without speaking them he hears our heart/silent prayers when we pray for others and ourselves.

Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered- Romans 8:26 n (KJV).
