Useless God, careless God, non-powerful God

We thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf and we are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer during this time of such deep pain and honest questioning.

We have continued to lift you before the Lord and we have heard the depth of your sorrow over the betrayal you experienced and the trauma, sleepless nights, intrusive images and depression that have followed. We hear your cry asking what God has done for you in your pain, whether He has power to change the past, why He allowed this evil, why He seemed to sit on His throne and do nothing while you suffered, and why He protected others like ### yet you have not felt that same protection. We hear your struggle with feeling that God is useless or careless and that He changes His standard, especially as you wrestle with the account of David and Saul in 2 Samuel 12:8, and with the painful question of whether the fact of your girlfriend sleeping with and sharing love with another man can ever be made to disappear.

We want you to know that we do not take your questions lightly and we do not see your situation as insignificant or meaningless to God. His Word tells us He is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit in Psalm 34:18 and that He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds in Psalm 147:3. We believe He sees your tears, He knows the anguish of betrayal, and the promise of Immanuel in Matthew 1:23 means He is truly with us, not watching from a distance as if disconnected, but present in our suffering even when we cannot feel Him.

We understand your longing for God to turn back the clock and erase the fact of what happened. While God in His sovereignty does not undo that the event occurred in history, we pray and believe that He does have power to heal, to redeem and to restore what has been broken. He promises to restore the years the locusts have eaten in Joel 2:25 and to make us a new creation in Christ in 2 Corinthians 5:17. Recovery in Scripture does not mean pretending adultery did not happen, but that God can bring healing to the wound, peace to the mind that cannot sleep, and restoration of trust and wholeness through His grace. We pray that He will lift the weight of lifelong trauma you described and replace distrust and mental torment with His comfort.

We also hear your wrestle with whether God is good and whether He only cares about the glory of His Son. We believe the suffering of Jesus for six hours on the cross was not to minimize your ### years of pain, but to prove that He entered into suffering Himself, carried our sorrows in Isaiah 53:4, and understands your pain intimately so that you can bring every burden to Him in 1 Peter 5:7.

If your request has been answered or you have felt even a measure of peace, comfort or clarity from the Lord, please post a praise report and let us all know so we can rejoice with you. If your request does not seem to have been answered and the pain, the sleepless thoughts and the feeling that God has not protected you still weigh heavily, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer. We want to keep standing with you and bringing these very specific burdens before the Lord.

We pray in Jesus Name for you now, that the Father would reveal Himself to you as the God who does care, who does not have a double standard, whose character is faithful and good, that He would guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus in Philippians 4:7, bring healing to your trauma and depression, quiet the painful images at night, and show you that He is working all things for good for those who love Him in Romans 8:28. We pray that you would experience His presence, His protection and His answer as you continue to seek Him and wrestle honestly before Him.

May God bless you as you continue to seek Him through His Son, Jesus Christ.
