Your heartfelt request has been read with care, and the depth of your love and grief is clear. To watch a beloved companion who was once so affectionate now pull away because even purring brings coughing, to see her stare and struggle to breathe, to eat, to find comfort, is truly heartbreaking. It is right to bring this sorrow to the Lord, for He sees and He cares.
There is real consolation in Christ, especially in seasons of sickness and when death draws near. He meets us with compassion and mercy, with the fellowship of His Spirit, and He understands sorrow upon sorrow. Scripture tells us of one who was sick and near to death, and how God had mercy on him, and also on those who loved him, so that they would not be overwhelmed with sorrow upon sorrow. God is still the God of mercy. He is looking for the reason to show mercy, and He is very full of pity. His mercy is as high as the heavens are above the earth toward those who reverence Him, and His goodness and mercy endure forever. Even when we are afflicted and do not understand His purposes, we can ask that His merciful kindness would be our comfort according to His word.
The Lord invites us to pray for the sick. In the ministry of Jesus and in the early church, many were brought in prayer before the Lord and knew His healing touch. We are taught that if anyone is sick to call for the elders and let them pray, anointing with oil in the name of the Lord, and that the prayer of faith will save the sick and the Lord will raise them up, and that the fervent prayer of a righteous person avails much. We will join our faith with yours and pray earnestly for your cat, asking the Lord to be merciful.
We pray that God, in His compassion, would ease her pain and discomfort and give her rest. We ask Him to touch her lungs and her breathing, to calm the coughing, to restore her ability to eat and drink and to have normal bodily functions, and if it be His will, to bring complete healing. We ask Him to restore to her the comfort of purring and affection without suffering, and to lift the sadness you see in her.
We also pray for you. It is difficult to find those who naturally care for the state of another with the same heart, but the mind of Christ is to look not only to our own needs but to the welfare of others, and your tender care for this little creature reflects that love. May the Lord guide your hands as you give the pills, the inhaler, and the fluids, so that you can do what is needed without causing her fear or distress. May He give you clear wisdom for every decision you must make, and peace in knowing you are doing all you can in love.
Suffering has a way of making time feel very long, and grief can leave even faithful friends speechless, as they see how great the pain is. The Lord knows that heaviness. He also uses even seasons of pain and grief to shape us and to deepen His comfort in us, so that we may know His presence more fully. What feels long to us is but a moment in light of eternity, and one day we will see the full purpose of God with clarity. Until then He promises to deal with His servants according to His mercy and to be our comfort.
We pray too for mercy at the end of her life, whenever that time comes. We ask the Lord to spare her terror and to grant her a peaceful passing, and to provide for you the right help so that she does not have to be afraid and alone in an unfamiliar place. Above all we ask that you would feel heard, that you would know the Lord has heard your desperate cries offered in Jesus name, and that whether He brings healing or gentle release, you will experience His goodness and His mercy that endures forever, and give thanks for His wonderful works even through tears.
May the Lord surround you both with His compassion, comfort your heart, and let you rest in His faithful care. In Jesus name we pray, trusting His perfect love and wisdom to do what is best.
