Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for trusting us with so much of your heart and for sharing so honestly about your cat and what you are walking through. Your grief is great and it is easy to hear how deep your love is for her. Watching the one you love struggle to breathe, to eat and drink, to be comforted by the very purring that once brought joy, and to pull away to be alone is heartbreaking. It is understandable that you feel torn and weary as you try to care for her every day.
The Lord sees that sorrow and He is near when you pour out your heart to Him. Scripture says He is close to the brokenhearted and to those with a crushed spirit. You can bring Him every part of this, your sadness, your fear, your exhaustion, your desperate pleas, and He hears. You do not need perfect words. Just coming to Him openly with your pain is what He invites.
In seasons like this it is also common to torment yourself by replaying the past and asking what if I had done something differently. Please be gentle with yourself in that. Grief can press on us so heavily that we speak from the pain rather than from settled truth, as Job did when he suffered. God understood Job in his grief even when his words were not accurate, and He understands you in yours. He does not measure your faith by whether your prayers sound perfect, but He receives a humble and honest heart that turns to Him.
Pain and sorrow are never easy, and we would never choose them, yet God can use them as tools to shape us and to form His character in us. Right now you cannot see the whole picture of what He is doing, and the hurt can feel overwhelming. There will be a day when you look back and see more clearly how He carried you through this valley, and even now He is at work in ways you cannot fully see. Keep bringing your burden to Him and trusting Him to walk with you through each day of this misery, step by step.
Sorrow that is carried alone can even wear down the body, as Scripture says that a heavy heart dries the bones. Take care of yourself as you care for her, and allow the Lord to be your strength. Pray that He will keep you from a troubled conscience afterward, that you will not be left with guilt over decisions made in love. Like David who was tempted to take matters into his own hands, the desire to protect and to do what is right is strong, but peace comes from resting each choice in God's hands and asking Him to keep your heart clear before Him.
We join you in prayer before the Father in Jesus name.
We ask that the Lord would have mercy on your precious companion. If it is His will, we ask Him to heal her completely, to ease her pain and discomfort, to help her breathe more easily, to restore her appetite for food and water, and to bring her body back to regular function. We ask Him to give her comfort so she can rest and receive affection again without coughing and distress.
We pray for wisdom and steadiness for your hands as you give her the pills, the inhaler, and the fluids. Ask God to guide you so you can care for her with gentleness and without causing her fear or hurt, and to give you discernment for every decision you must make on her behalf.
And we pray for mercy in her final hours whenever that time comes. We ask that the Lord would spare her terror and pain and let her pass peacefully in her sleep in the safety of home, surrounded by love rather than fear. We ask Him to provide a kind veterinarian who will come to your home if that help is needed, so she does not have to endure a frightening ride or die alone and confused.
Above all we ask that you would feel heard and held by God in every desperate cry you lift to Him. He knows how much she means to you. She is not just a cat to you, she is family, and He cares about what you love. May He give you His peace that passes understanding, sustain you through each treatment and each sleepless night, and remind you that your prayers offered in Jesus name are heard.
May the Lord comfort you both and keep you in His gentle care. Amen.
