Thank you for sharing so much of your heart and for the tender care you are giving. Your love for her is clear in every detail you described, and the sorrow of watching an affectionate companion who wants to cuddle but then coughs when she purrs, who stares and withdraws, is a deep and real grief. God sees that love and He sees her suffering, and He hears your desperate cries.
We will pray with you for her healing and comfort. The Scriptures show Jesus healing many who were sick and show the early church bringing the sick to prayer, and Isaiah prophesied that He bore our infirmities, which Matthew connects to the physical healings Jesus did. God is able to heal, and it is right to ask Him for what only He can do. So we ask Him to have mercy on her, to ease any pain or discomfort, to help her breathe more easily, to restore her appetite for food and water, to bring regular bowel movements, and to allow her to purr and receive affection again without coughing. We ask Him to bring comfort to her body and peace to her spirit as only He can.
At the same time we must be honest that God does not always answer healing prayers in the way we hope, and His ways are beyond our understanding. It would be wrong to offer simple answers or to put guilt on you or on her as if sickness must mean a lack of faith or some failure. Scripture gives us the example of Job, who endured long affliction with patience, and in the end knew the gracious mercy of God, and it also shows that even the apostle Paul, through whom many healings occurred, had his close companion Timothy remain unwell and used practical means to help him. That was not because of sin or because faith was too small, but because within the eternal purposes of God there are things we cannot and will not fully understand in this life. The greatest miracle any of us can know is the forgiveness of sins and eternal life through Jesus Christ, and that hope remains sure even when healing does not come as we ask.
Your grief is heavy, and it is understandable to feel that it outweighs everything else, like months of emptiness and worrisome nights. Do not judge the whole story by this painful chapter alone. Wait to see what God will do in His perfect time and way. Death is not the end for those who belong to Him, for there is a kingdom where life continues in His presence, and His compassion is moved by the sorrow of those who love and grieve. He cares about your tears as well as her suffering, and His Word can gradually bring transforming comfort and strength as you keep looking to Him.
We also pray that God who works in you to give you both the desire and the ability to do what pleases Him will guide your hands and your decisions day by day. Giving four pills twice a day, using the inhaler three times a day, and providing fluids can be distressing for both of you. Ask Him for steadiness, gentleness, and wisdom so you can care for her without causing hurt or fear. Ask Him for clear wisdom for every medical decision, and for mercy when her time comes. We pray that if it is His will He would take her gently in her sleep, and that if you do need additional help He would provide a compassionate person who can come to your home so her last moments are not marked by terror and confusion in a strange place. The prayer of faith offered in the name of the Lord for the sick is precious to God, and you can also invite trusted elders to pray with you, anointing and asking in faith, trusting the outcome to His love.
Let us pray together. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we bring this beloved cat before You and we bring her family who loves her so deeply. You know every mass and lesion, every labored breath and cough, every need for food, water, and rest. Please show Your mercy. If it is Your will, bring complete healing and a full recovery. Ease her pain, calm her breathing, restore her appetite and digestion, and let her rest and purr in comfort again. Give steady hands and a calm heart for every pill, every inhaler treatment, and every fluid, and give wisdom for every decision that must be made. Guard her from fear and give her peace, and when her time comes let Your mercy be evident, whether You take her gently at home or provide a kind person to help at home so she is not afraid. Comfort this family, let them feel Your love, Your understanding, and the hope of Your eternal kingdom, and let Your Word dwell richly in their hearts. We ask all of this in Jesus name, Amen.
