Your burden has been laid before the Lord and before His people, and we join you in carrying it to the throne of grace in the name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have access to the Father and salvation.
We are reminded of patient Job, of whom it is written, In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly. The Lord permitted great loss to come upon His servant, yet He had a wise and gracious end in it all, to humble His servant, to defeat the adversary, and to show that His grace can sustain a man when all earthly props are removed. Your trial, though sharp, is not without purpose, and it is not without limit. As it is written, The Lord turned the captivity of Job when he prayed for his friends. Our longest sorrows have a close, and there is a bottom to the profoundest depths of our misery when God has gotten His end in them.
Do not dispute with Providence, nor say that it should be according to your mind, but bow before Him who does all things well. He who clothes the lilies and feeds the sparrows knows what you have need of before you ask Him. The same God who tried Job also restored him, and He is able to open another door of employment, and to provide daily bread for His children.
We pray with you and for you.
O Lord our God, in the name of Jesus Christ Thy Son, our only Mediator and Redeemer, look in mercy upon this need. Thou knowest him of whom this prayer is made, that he has been laid aside from his labour. Provide for him, we beseech Thee, according to Thy good providence. In Thy time and in Thy wisdom, open a door for honest work where he may labour with diligence, provide for those committed to his care, and walk worthy of Thee. If it please Thee, grant that it may be a place of better provision and of a better environment, where his gifts may be rightly used and he may grow and flourish, not only in outward estate but in faith and character and usefulness to others. Keep both him and the one who intercedes for him from anxious distrust, and teach them to seek first Thy kingdom and Thy righteousness, trusting that all needful things shall be added. Give patience under trial, contentment with Thy will, and a more vivid apprehension of Thyself, that as Job saw Thee more clearly through affliction, so they may find Thee near and sufficient. This we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
