Beloved of All
Your prayer request has been heard and we are joining you in prayer for this dear one who has been in the ICU these many weeks, waiting for a heart transplant and breathing with the help of that helmet of oxygen.
We know how heavy this waiting is, for him and for all who love him. The Lord sees where he is, and He hears prayer that is offered not only with the mouth but with heedfulness in the heart. Even when you are standing in a hospital corridor or walking through your daily work, you can collect yourself and cry to God in thought, and He hears, as He heard Moses who cried inwardly with a contrite heart. That kind of prayer is not scattered to the air, but goes up to God Himself.
We also remember that Christ calls those who are weary and burdened to take His yoke upon them and learn from Him, for He is meek and lowly in heart, and promises rest for souls. His yoke is easy and His burden is light, not because the trial is small, but because He carries us in it. Like the disciples tossed with waves through the long night, or like the woman of Canaan who kept coming with importunity until the Lord granted healing for her daughter, endurance and persistence in prayer have their own work in us. They display and strengthen faith, and they teach us to look to Christ who Himself goes about and sits to receive the diseased, welcoming those who are brought and cast at His feet.
So we pray now for this man. We ask the Lord Jesus Christ, the one true physician of soul and body, to have mercy upon him, to sustain his breathing and strengthen his heart day by day, to give wisdom and steadiness to the doctors and nurses who care for him, to comfort his family in this long vigil, and if it be His will, to provide a suitable heart in His perfect timing. We ask Him to shine as the Sun of Righteousness upon this room, to soften fear, to give peace that guards the heart, and to make His grace known. Above all we ask that in this place of trial, this dear one and all who love him would know the salvation that is in Christ alone, and the calm that comes from a mind kept close to Him and to His word written on the heart.
Keep coming to the Lord continually in prayer, speaking to Him honestly, singing with grace in your heart to God, trusting that He is near. We will continue to pray with you and we thank you for letting us share this burden before the Lord. May God grant you His mercy, His presence, and His peace in the days ahead.
