Upset

Thank you for sharing your heart and asking for prayer. We are praying for you now and we care about what you are going through.

The Lord knows you are upset and He understands the many things weighing on you. He wants to meet you right where you are and bring you His peace. Jesus said, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you, not as the world gives. The peace He gives is different from anything the world can offer, and it is deeper than our circumstances.

Scripture speaks of two kinds of peace. First there is peace with God, which comes only through Jesus Christ and His sacrifice. Through His blood our sins are forgiven and the war between us and God is ended. We are no longer at enmity with Him. Then there is the peace of God, that steady, perfect peace that guards our hearts and minds even when life around us is full of turmoil and confusion. It is described as a peace that passes all human understanding.

That perfect peace comes as our minds are stayed on Him. Isaiah says He will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in Him. When our thoughts are fixed on the Lord and on His promises rather than on the problems that upset us, His peace begins to fill our hearts. It is not that the problems disappear, but we come to know in a deeper way that He will take care of us and work in all things for our good.

Remember also the order the Bible gives, grace and then peace. We first receive His grace, His undeserved favor and mercy in Christ, and then we experience His peace. You do not have to earn His peace. It flows from His grace already given to you in Jesus. All of His promises are yes in Christ, including His promise of peace and comfort.

He is called the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles. He stands with us in dark and difficult hours to strengthen and encourage us. He has allowed His people to go through hard places so they can know His comfort and then share that same comfort with others, but His first desire is to comfort you personally right now.

The result of the hope we have in Him is joy and peace in believing, not in our feelings. Feelings change from day to day. Our faith rests on His Word, which does not change. Even when you feel upset and restless inside, you can still trust what He has said is true, and as you believe His Word, joy and peace will follow.

So we encourage you to turn your mind toward Him today. Tell Him honestly about everything that has you upset. Cast your cares on Him because He cares for you. Spend time in His Word and in prayer, reminding yourself of His grace and His presence with you.

We pray for you now. Father, we thank You for Your grace given to us through Jesus Christ. We lift up this dear one who is upset by many things. We ask that You would forgive, heal, and draw near. Let Your peace that passes understanding guard this heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Keep this mind stayed on You and bring that perfect and complete peace that only You can give. Comfort as only the God of all comfort can, and fill this life with Your hope, joy, and love. In Jesus name, Amen.
