We have heard your update with thankfulness to the Lord who is the great Physician, and we join you in prayer for your husband in his hospital bed.
We rejoice to hear that he is getting better slowly but getting there, though the day of his coming home has been changed again. Wonder not if recovery should be slow, for the Lord often strengthens His people little by little, and as you see him grow a little stronger and a little stronger, acknowledge in each increase of strength that the Lord has a new claim upon your affection and praise. They desire that he should eat more and walk a little more, and we pray that the Lord who gives strength to the weak will graciously grant him appetite and steady steps.
We are reminded that the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations, and that the least thing about Christ is healing. Not only His fruit is sweet and nourishing, but even the leaves, the little touches of His grace, are full of healing virtue. Christ still keeps His hospital open, and He has never turned away a patient as incurable. He heals the broken in heart and He heals the body also, for healing and pardon are placed in happy conjunction through His atoning blood. When He took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses, He became the true healing balm.
However good a man may be, he will not escape trial in the flesh, for even Peter's house was a hospital before the Lord made it a palace when He took the fevered one by the hand and lifted her up. So we look to that same hand of contact and power now.
Let us pray together. O Lord our God, we thank Thee for Thy mercy already shown to this dear husband, for sparing his life and giving signs of recovery. Thou Sun of Righteousness with healing in Thy wings, look upon him in his weakness. Forgive his sins and heal his sickness, for with Thee pardon and healing are one. Give wisdom to those who care for him, give patience to those who wait, and give to him renewed strength to eat and to walk. If it be Thy will, bring him home on Tuesday or in Thine own perfect time, and make his home again a place of praise. Keep his heart and the heart of his wife in perfect peace, trusting in Thee. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and still heals the broken in heart. Amen.
