Unpaid police penalty by the former landlord

We join you in bringing this matter before the Lord and we appreciate that you have asked for prayer in Jesus' name, for it is through Him alone that we have access to the Father and it is in His name that we find mercy and justice reconciled.

We understand the burden you carry concerning this former landlord and the unpaid penalty with the police both here and abroad. It can be frustrating and unsettling when someone fails to take responsibility for what is owed to the governing authorities, especially when that failure may affect others and leaves a matter unresolved. We hear your desire not for vengeance but for genuine remorse and for this man to make things right, which reflects a heart that seeks righteousness and peace.

Scripture teaches us that God has ordained authorities for order and justice. Romans 13:1 says Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God. And Romans 13:4 reminds us for he is a servant of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid, for he doesn’t bear the sword in vain; for he is a servant of God, an avenger for wrath to him who does evil. To leave a penalty unpaid is to resist that God given order, and true repentance will lead to action.

We also know that God desires godly sorrow that leads to repentance, not just regret. Proverbs 28:13 tells us He who conceals his sins doesn’t prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy. Our prayer is that this landlord would not conceal or ignore what is owed, but would confess, turn, and do what is right, much like Zacchaeus who declared in Luke 19:8 Behold, Lord, half of my goods I give to the poor. If I have wrongfully exacted anything of anyone, I restore four times as much. That is the fruit of a changed heart.

We must also guard our own hearts against bitterness while we wait for justice. Romans 12:19 says Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord. And Jesus calls us to a higher way in Matthew 5:44 But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you. Praying for his remorse as you have done is exactly what Christ asks of us.

So we pray together now. Father in heaven, we lift up this former landlord to You in the name of Jesus Christ. You see his heart and You know the details of this penalty that remains unpaid here and abroad. We ask that You convict him by Your Holy Spirit and grant him godly sorrow that leads to true repentance. Soften his heart where it has been hardened or indifferent, and give him the courage and integrity to go to the proper police authorities and resolve what is overdue. Let him take responsibility promptly and fully, and let this matter be settled in a way that honors You and respects the law You have established. We also pray for peace for the one who submitted this request, that You would guard their heart from anxiety and frustration and help them to trust that You are just and You are at work even when we cannot see it. Lead this landlord to walk in honesty and to find mercy through confession and restitution. We ask all of this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior, amen.

We hear how wearing this situation with your former landlord has been, especially with a penalty left unpaid here and also abroad and the sense that you are left carrying the concern.

It is understandable you would pray for him to come to a place of genuine remorse and to take responsibility with the police. We are joining you in that prayer, asking God to work on his conscience and to move him toward making things right. When someone has done wrong, that inward change often becomes visible through outward action to repair what was harmed, and we pray he will take those concrete steps to resolve what is overdue.

While you wait, it can help to have clarity for yourself. If you have not already, keep a simple file of any notices, dates, and communications related to the penalty, and if you have any concern that it could affect you, consider asking a trusted local advisor or the appropriate office what, if anything, is needed from you so you are not left guessing.

We are with you in this and we are asking God to bring resolution and peace as you trust Him with it.

Father, we bring this former landlord before You and ask that You would stir his heart toward honesty and responsibility, and guide him to settle what is owed with the authorities in both places. We also ask for Your protection, wisdom and peace for the one who wrote to us, and that You would work this toward what is right and good. In Jesus name, amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We have brought your request before the Lord and have entreated Him on behalf of your former landlord, that the matter of this unpaid penalty, both here and abroad, may be righteously resolved.

You do well to pray not merely that a penalty might be paid, but that the heart might be changed, for there is a repentance that is carnal and of the flesh, wrought by fear of judgment and exposure, and there is a repentance unto life which is wrought in the renewed heart by the Holy Spirit. The first trembles at the punishment, the second grieves before God against whom the sin has been committed and gives glory to His justice even while it condemns itself. True repentance, as we are taught, yields works meet for repentance, it is practical and it lasts, it leaves the sins it once loved and shows earnest grief by doing so no more.

We are reminded that God Himself is the great Landlord and we are but tenants in His house. The house we dwell in is not our own, and He has at all times the right to enter and to call His tenants to account. The rent we owe is obedience and honesty before Him and before man. When a debt to justice remains unpaid, conscience must not be quieted with vain regrets which we often mistake for true repentance.

Therefore our prayer is not only that this man may feel the sting of remorse under the hand of the magistrate, but that the goodness of God may lead him to repentance. The Lord does not merely drive men as Cain was driven, but draws them by His goodness. May that goodness lead this landlord to a godly sorrow that needs not to be repented of, a sorrow that looks out of self to Christ alone for forgiveness, and then brings forth fruit in honest restitution.

We pray thus, that the Lord who is both just and the justifier would work in him a heart to acknowledge His justice without murmuring, to confess wherein he has done wrong, and to make full and timely satisfaction where the law requires it, both in this land and in the other where the penalty is overdue. And we pray that Justice, having been satisfied where satisfaction is due, may no longer accuse, and that peace may be restored.

May the Lord grant you also a quiet confidence that He reigns over all such matters, that no debt escapes His eye, and that He will cause all things to work for the good of those who love Him. We commend you to Him who bore the penalty of sin upon His own body at Gethsemane and upon the cross, that through faith in Him we might have remission, for where there is true repentance there is also full and free forgiveness in Christ Jesus.

We will continue to remember this matter in prayer, asking that the Lord would grant to this man repentance unto life and a will to do that which is just and right in the sight of God and man.

We have heard your request and we join you in bringing it before the Lord in Jesus' name.

We pray that God would work in the heart of your former landlord and grant him true remorse that leads to right action. Scripture teaches that not all sorrow is true repentance. There is a sorrow that only regrets consequences and bears no fruit, like Esau who sought the blessing with tears but did not truly turn, and like Judas who felt remorse after his sin was complete but was led quickly into despair instead of turning to God for mercy. We pray your former landlord would not have that kind of empty sorrow, but a godly sorrow that leads to repentance, faith in Christ, and the fruit of making things right where he is able.

We also pray that God would move him to resolve this unpaid penalty with the police, both here and abroad where it remains overdue. God has ordained civil authorities and courts of justice for order and accountability, and they reflect in a small way His own righteous judgment. We pray the landlord would no longer store up responsibility by delay, but would act honestly and promptly to settle what is owed, so that justice is satisfied and this burden is lifted from you and from others involved.

We pray for you as well, that the Lord would give you peace as you wait, patience to entrust this matter to Him who judges righteously, and wisdom in any practical steps you need to take. God is both merciful and just. He shows long suffering and calls all people to repentance, and He also reveals His righteous judgment in due time. We can trust Him to do what is right.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ who alone is our Savior, we ask for Your mercy on this man. Open his eyes to his responsibility, soften his heart to true repentance, and lead him to resolve this penalty fully and honestly before the authorities in both places. Grant him to know Your forgiveness through Christ as he turns to You. And grant peace and provision to the one who has brought this request, that Your will be done and Your name be honored. Amen.
