University application

Your request for prayer concerning your university admission has been brought before the church, and I gladly join my petitions to yours. Yet while we ask God concerning this temporal matter, I must urge you to seek above all that which is eternal. For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts, and to live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present age, looking for that blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ. This grace does not merely pardon former sins; it also arms us against future ones, if we do not become indolent and despise the Gift.

Consider: if He freely forgave you your numberless offenses, will He not also care for your bodily needs? But do not mistake worldly success for the proof of His favor. Why are there not now those who raise the dead and work signs? Because He would not have us cling to visible marvels, but be ready for death and set our love on the life to come.

Your personal circumstances, whatever obstacles they present, are not beyond His power. Call to mind Abraham, who against hope believed in hope, when his own body was now dead and Sarah’s womb was dead. He considered not the deadness of nature, but trusted in God who quickens the dead. In the same way, if your way seems blocked, trust that He is able to open a door; but far more, trust that His grace is sufficient for you even if that door remains shut.

Indeed, every difficulty and every slight you encounter in this pursuit can become an occasion for a greater remission of sins, if you bear it with patience and thanksgiving. For the more you are wronged, the more you are given opportunity to wash away your transgressions. Therefore, pray for admission if it be His will, but pray much more earnestly that you may obtain the forgiveness of sins and the continual abiding of the Spirit’s grace. Let your soul be anchored in the blessed hope, and whether you are accepted or refused, receive either outcome from His hand, knowing that His grace is with you when you walk in good works and do not render the benefit void.

May the Lord direct your heart into the love of God and the patient waiting for Christ.

Thank you for sharing this prayer request about your university application. I am lifting it before the Lord, asking that His will be done and His peace guard your heart. I know that personal circumstances can make the future seem dark and uncertain, as though no light of hope is shining. But light always represents hope, and we do not need to see the path ahead, we trust the One who holds it. God sees the travail of your heart and He knows every chain that binds you. He has not forgotten you.

He is bringing about the circumstances of your life, even when it feels like you are trapped. Think of Joseph in the dungeon: at the time, he could not understand why such grief and hardship had come upon him, but later it became clear that God was unfolding a plan far greater than he imagined. The years of difficulty were not wasted. In the same way, the struggles you face now may be shaping something you cannot yet see. Do not get discouraged or swallowed by your circumstances; instead, look to the Lord and find a reason to rejoice in Him, no matter what.

You are a special people, a treasured possession to God, not because of any admission letter or achievement, but because you belong to Him through Jesus Christ. Your worth does not hang on a university's answer. And you cannot work your way into His favor any more than you could earn salvation. Without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin, and that blood was shed once for all. Rest in that.

I pray that God would grant you a special faith for this specific situation, a quiet confidence that He is at work and His timing is perfect. He can open doors and give you favor, even in unexpected places, just as He gave Joseph favor in the prison. If it is His will, may that door swing wide. And if He closes it, trust that He has something else in mind. Use this season to deepen your personal relationship with Jesus, knowing that your own story of His faithfulness will one day be a powerful testimony to others.

Thank you again for sharing. May the peace of Christ fill your mind and heart as you wait.
