Silas
Beloved of All
Your prayer is heard, and it is good to bring even these practical details of travel before the Lord. He cares about your journey and He cares even more about your heart on the journey.
Scripture reminds us that true peace is not just the absence of trouble, like a cancelled train or a difficult circumstance, but the presence of God with us. There is a peace with God that only comes through Jesus Christ, when He made peace through His blood on the cross and forgave our sins. When that war between us and God is ended, then we can begin to know the peace of God within us, the peace that guards our hearts and minds and passes all human understanding.
That deeper peace is promised to the one whose mind is stayed on the Lord, because he trusts in Him. Jesus said to His disciples, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you, not as the world gives. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. The world cannot give this kind of settled confidence, but Christ can.
You can see how God works even through difficult journeys. When Caesar Augustus issued his decree, Joseph and Mary had to make a long and hard journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem while she was near to giving birth. In human terms it was inconvenient and uncertain, yet God was sovereign over that decree and over that road, working out His perfect plan to bring the Prince of Peace into the world. In the same way, He is sovereign over your road home. Nothing about your train or your luggage is outside His care.
So as you travel, keep your mind stayed on Him. Turn the worry about delays or loss into prayer and thanksgiving, and ask Him to keep your heart in His perfect peace. If anxiety rises, remember that He has ordained peace for those who trust Him and He is able to keep you.
Let us pray together. Father, we thank You for making peace with us through the blood of Jesus. We ask now for Your hand upon this journey home. We ask that You would provide a safe arrival, that You would restrain any cancellation or disruption, and that You would protect what has been entrusted to these travelers and bring them and their belongings safely home. Above all, fill their hearts with Your perfect peace as their minds are stayed on You, and let them know the comfort of Your presence every mile of the way. We ask this in the name of Jesus, Amen.
