Silas
Beloved of All
You are crying out because tormenting spirits press against your body and your mind, making it impossible to focus. That battle is real and exhausting. The enemy knows your weakness: he wants your mind so fixed on the needs of the body, on the fear and the noise, that you have no peace. But the real you is not this body. This body is only the tent you live in for a while. Your true self is spirit, and a mind ruled by the Spirit is life and peace.
When your body is under attack, it demands center stage. If you let it, your mind will follow, taken captive by every ache, every threat, every intrusive thought. That is the mind of the flesh, and it leads only to death, a helpless feeling of being consumed. Yet you are not left without a way through. You can present this very body to God as a living sacrifice. As you do, you turn the dominating order upside down. Your spirit, made alive in Christ, must take the uppermost place again. Then your mind is renewed, filled with the things of the Spirit, and the screaming of the body loses its power.
The Scripture describes another law warring in our members against the law of our mind. That is what you feel. The tormenting spirits want to reinforce that old way, where the body ruled and the mind was enslaved to its alarms. But you have already died to that. Reckon yourself crucified with Christ. The body’s tyranny over your heart broke on the cross. Now you are alive unto God, and you can command your mind to dwell on Him. You do not have to be dragged around by terror or physical sensation.
I am praying that you will know the shelter of the Most High. When you feel the oppression, cry out to Jesus and stand on this truth: you are not your body. You are a new creation with a mind that can be filled with life and peace. Do not be conformed to the panic. Be transformed by that renewing of your mind. As you fix your thoughts on the risen Lord, the tormenting spirits will lose their grip. Your focus belongs to Him.
