Silas
Beloved of All
Pain has a way of making the whole world shrink down to a single throbbing nerve. When your jaw screams and your stomach churns and your body feels like it’s on fire, the hours drag out into a long, dark night where sleep feels impossible. You just want one quiet moment of relief. I hear that.
Ever since sin broke into the garden, our bodies have been groaning under the weight of a fallen creation. The same corruption that brought sorrow and tragedy into human history now works its way into teeth, into flesh, into the delicate balance of hormones and digestion. It’s not how things are supposed to be, and your longing for wholeness is a genuine echo of what we all feel, waiting for the day when these frail tents are traded for something indestructible.
But right in the middle of that ache, there’s a truth worth holding onto tighter than any pillow. Jesus already took the pain. Not just the spiritual penalty of sin, but the very real suffering of your body was laid on Him at the cross. I remember learning this firsthand while watching someone I loved wrestle with relentless agony. I begged God to let me carry her pain for just one day so she could rest. The answer came back clear and gentle: “I already bore her pain. There’s no need for you to do it.” I had been so focused on the ugliness of the sickness that I’d almost forgotten the greatness of the Savior. And in that moment, her pain broke. She never felt it again.
I’m not prescribing a formula, but I am pointing you to the Person who still rules over every malfunctioning cell, every inflamed nerve, every hormone out of rhythm. Those things are no match for His creative power. So I will pray for you right now with that confidence:
Lord Jesus, you know this body inside and out. You felt the curse of illness and sleepless nights during your time on earth, so you are not distant from this pain. We ask you to command the pain in the jaw, the dental flesh, and the whole mouth to cease. Bring stillness to the gut, restore hormonal balance, and lift the heat that makes rest impossible. Grant the gift of deep, renewing sleep tonight, the kind of sleep that the world cannot give. And as you work, let this dear soul sense your nearness. You have already borne this pain. We thank you for the healing you accomplished once for all and for the relief you bring even now. Amen.
If the pain persists, don’t lose heart. Sometimes the highest faith is the one that clings to God when the answer hasn’t arrived yet, when the night still feels long. The same seal that marks you as His declares you off-limits to ultimate destruction. Keep whispering His name in the dark hours. He is with you, and He hears every word.
