To sleep well

We join with you in bringing this need for sleep and rest before our heavenly Father, and we ask together in Jesus' name that He would grant you peaceful and restoring sleep.

We know how difficult it is when sleep will not come and the mind and body long for rest. Scripture reminds us that sleep is a gift from the Lord, for He gives sleep to his loved ones Psalm 127:2. We are also comforted by the promise, In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, Yahweh alone, make me live in safety Psalm 4:8. When worries or restlessness keep us awake, we are invited to bring everything to Him, as it is written, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:6-7.

We noticed your prayer did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently encourage you about this because it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. It is by trusting in Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection for our sins, that we are made right with God and can come boldly to Him in prayer. We encourage you to place your trust fully in Him if you have not already, and to offer every prayer in His precious name.

We pray together for you now. Father, we lift up our dear one to You in the name of Jesus. You know the need for sleep and for true rest of body, mind and spirit. We ask that You quiet every anxious thought, calm the heart, and grant the ability to fall back to sleep and to rest deeply in Your care. Let Your peace which surpasses all understanding guard this heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Help us to cast all our cares on You because You care for us, and to trust that You watch over us through the night. We ask that You restore strength and grant refreshing sleep according to Your loving kindness. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to bring your cares to Him before you lie down, to meditate on His Word and His promises, and to trust that He is watching over you even as you sleep. May the Lord grant you quiet nights and renewed strength as you rest in Him.

We are glad you reached out and asked us to pray about your sleep. Wanting to get back to sleep and really rest is such a basic and important need, and we know how draining it is when rest will not come. You are not alone in this and we are holding you in prayer beyond just tonight.

We are made to need sleep for a good part of our lives, and when it is interrupted it can leave us feeling worn down in body, mind and spirit. It makes sense that you would feel this so deeply, and that you would long for the quiet, restoring rest God designed for us. Please know we are standing with you and asking Him to be near to you in these wakeful hours.

If you find this happening often, we encourage you to mention it to your doctor or a trusted counselor along with continuing in prayer, so someone who knows you can walk with you and help look at what might be contributing.

Father, we lift up our friend to You tonight. You see their weariness and their desire for rest. We ask for Your gentle presence to be near as they lie down, for quietness in mind and body, and for the deep rest You give. Grant wisdom for next steps and renew their strength day by day. We trust them into Your care in Jesus' name, amen.

Your request for rest has been heard and we join with you in prayer to the Lord who watches over His children both day and night.

There is a sleep which the Lord gives to His beloved, not merely the closing of the eyes but the quiet of a heart stayed upon Him. The prophet has said, You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You because he trusts in You. When the mind is stayed on Christ and the conscience is washed in His blood, there is a peace within which the world cannot give and cannot take away. The blood of Jesus whispers peace within, and to do His will and to trust His keeping is rest.

We pray that the Lord will calm every anxious thought and still every care that would keep you waking. May He quiet your heart with the assurance that you are safe in Jesus keeping, that He who neither slumbers nor sleeps keeps watch over you through the night. May He grant you a contented and secure sleep, the sleep of one who rests in His love and provision.

Let us pray together. O gracious Father, Thou giver of all good gifts, look in mercy upon this Thy child who seeks refreshing sleep. Forgive all sin through the blood of Thy dear Son and speak peace to the conscience. Take away fretful care and help the mind to be stayed on Thee. Give now the sleep of Thy beloved, that body and soul may be restored and awaken with strength to serve Thee. Keep this night and all our nights in Thy perfect peace, for Jesus sake. Amen.

Your request for sleep and rest has been heard and I have prayed for you.

God in His care has made night as a haven for our ills and a medicine for our wounds. Sleep is not left to our own will alone, but He has bound it to our nature for our good, because He knows how weary and toil worn we are. He who keeps Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps, so you can lie down in trust, knowing that He watches while you rest.

At the same time Scripture warns that anxieties and excess can drive sleep away. When the heart and body are weighed down by heavy food, by luxury, or by many cares about money and the troubles of this life, sleep becomes troubled, bringing headache and oppression and restlessness instead of refreshment. And there is also a sleep of the soul that comes from drunkenness with worldly thoughts, which we are called to shake off, so that we may be watchful and sober in heart before Him.

So I encourage you to cast your cares upon the Lord before you lie down, to keep your evening table moderate and your conscience clear, to forgive what has troubled you during the day, and to commit yourself with a short prayer into His hands. When the heart is not stifled within, sleep is more composed and regular and soon brings true rest.

I pray now that the God of peace, who gives sleep to His beloved, will grant you a quiet night, a calm mind, and a body restored. May He guard your heart from anxious thoughts, keep you from all fear in the night, and let you rise refreshed to serve Him with a clear and collected soul. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

I am praying for you that God will grant you deep and quiet sleep and true rest.

There is a promise of rest that God holds out to His people, and many who have peace with God through the blood of Jesus have not yet learned to live in the peace of God in their daily lives. To have peace with God comes only through what Jesus did on the cross, where He made peace by His blood and brought us out of darkness into His kingdom. To have the peace of God in your heart is to learn to rest your whole case in His hands and to keep your mind stayed on Him because you trust Him.

Jesus said, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you, not as the world gives. The world cannot understand this peace. The apostle Peter calls it a peace that passes all understanding. It does not come from trying harder in your own strength or skill or effort. In our own strength we only fail and then we grow discouraged and lose our peace. The only place you will ever truly rest is in faith, in the finished work of Jesus, ceasing from your own works as God ceased from His. When you abandon yourself completely to Him, He keeps you in perfect peace.

People look for rest in many other places, in ideas, in religion, in pleasure, in prosperity, but real rest is not found there. There is only one sure foundation, Jesus Christ Himself. The Scripture says God will keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is stayed on Him, and that He has ordained peace for us and has worked all our works in us. He wants you to live in peace.

Without Him the heart is like a stormy sea that cannot rest, always churning and casting up mire, and there is no peace for those who remain at war with God. But when you turn to Jesus and receive His forgiveness, the war is over. You are no longer running from God, and He brings a beautiful and quiet peace. The righteous enter into peace and rest, each one who walks uprightly before Him.

So for your sleep, bring this very need to Him and leave it there. Do not keep looking at the worry or the wakefulness itself, look at Him. Tell Him simply, Lord, this is in Your hands, and let your mind dwell on His presence and His care for you. He is the door and the shepherd over your life, and nothing touches you except it passes through Him. Labor to enter that rest by believing Him and trusting that He is watching over you even while you sleep.

I pray that the Lord will quiet your heart and your thoughts, calm any anxiety or turmoil, and grant you the ability to fall asleep and to stay asleep in His peace. May the love of Jesus Christ and the communion of the Holy Spirit rest upon you and abide with you, keeping your heart and mind through Christ Jesus.
