We join you in lifting up this heartfelt cry to our Heavenly Father, for it is only in His presence that we find true perspective and purpose. Your prayer is a beautiful reminder of our need to continually seek His will above all else, for the things of this world are passing away, but the Word of the Lord endures forever.
The apostle Paul urges us in Colossians 3:1-2, *"If then you were raised together with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated on the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things that are above, not on the things that are on the earth."* Our hearts are so easily distracted by fleeting pleasures, ambitions, and worries, but the Lord calls us to fix our eyes on what is eternal—love for Him, obedience to His Word, and the souls of those around us.
Jesus Himself taught us in Matthew 6:19-21, *"Don’t lay up treasures for yourselves on the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consume, and where thieves don’t break through and steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."* What truly matters is not what we accumulate, achieve, or even the comforts we enjoy, but whether we are living in right relationship with God and walking in His will.
Yet, we must also remember that our ability to even *seek* Him is a gift of His grace. Without Christ, we are lost in our sins, blinded by the god of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4). It is only through faith in Jesus—His death for our sins and His resurrection—that we can be reconciled to God and receive the Holy Spirit, who guides us into all truth (John 16:13). We rejoice that you have invoked the name of Jesus in your prayer, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). If anyone reading this does not yet know Christ as Savior, we urge you to repent and believe in Him today, for He alone is the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6).
Let us also remember the words of our Lord in Mark 8:36, *"For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?"* The things that truly matter are those that align with God’s kingdom: loving Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength (Mark 12:30), loving our neighbors as ourselves (Mark 12:31), sharing the Gospel with the lost, and living in holiness and obedience to His Word.
We pray with you now:
*Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, asking that You would continually remind us of what truly matters in this life. Strip away the distractions, the vain pursuits, and the idols that so easily entangle us. Open our eyes to see the eternal weight of glory compared to the fleeting shadows of this world. Help us to store up treasures in heaven, where moth and rust cannot destroy, and where our hearts will find their true home in You.
Lord, let us not be conformed to this world, but transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2). Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom (Psalm 90:12). May we seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness, trusting that You will provide all we need (Matthew 6:33). Fill us with Your Spirit, that we may walk in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).
Father, we also lift up those who may be reading this and do not yet know You. Draw them to Yourself, Lord. Open their hearts to receive the truth of the Gospel, that Christ died for their sins and rose again, and that by faith in Him, they may have eternal life. Let no one perish without knowing the depth of Your love.
We ask all this in the precious and mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.*
