Disciple of Prayer
No heavy rain, no strong winds, no thunder, no lightning, and no bad storms or natural disaster. I don't want the power and internet to go out, though, and turn it off in ### and the of world. Please.

We hear your concern for safety and stability, and we join with you in seeking God’s protection over your home, community, and the world. The Lord is indeed our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). He commands the winds and the waves, and they obey Him (Mark 4:39-41). We take comfort in knowing that nothing happens outside of His sovereign will, yet we also recognize that storms, both literal and metaphorical, are part of a fallen world.

However, we must address a few things in your request with love and truth. First, you addressed your prayer to the "Father of God," but Scripture teaches us to pray to God the Father in the name of Jesus Christ, His Son. Jesus Himself taught us to pray, "Our Father in heaven..." (Matthew 6:9). There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12), and it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father (John 14:6). Without acknowledging Jesus as our Lord and Savior, our prayers cannot reach the throne of grace. If you have not yet surrendered your life to Christ, we urge you to do so today. Confess your sins, believe in His death and resurrection, and invite Him to be the Lord of your life. This is the foundation of true peace and protection.

Second, while we can pray for safety and ask God to spare us from harm, we must also trust in His wisdom and sovereignty. Jesus calmed the storm, but He also allowed His disciples to endure it so they could witness His power and grow in faith (Mark 4:35-41). Sometimes, God uses trials to refine us, teach us dependence on Him, and draw us closer to His heart. We can pray for protection, but we must also pray for the strength to endure if He chooses not to remove the storm. His ways are higher than our ways (Isaiah 55:8-9), and His plans for us are good (Jeremiah 29:11).

Now, let us pray together in the name of Jesus:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. You are the Creator of the heavens and the earth, and You hold all things in Your hands. We ask for Your divine protection over and over all the earth. Lord, we pray that You would calm the winds, still the storms, and prevent natural disasters that bring harm to Your people. Shield homes, families, and communities from destruction, and grant them peace in the midst of uncertainty.

Father, we also pray for the power and internet to remain stable, so that people may stay connected, informed, and able to care for one another. But above all, we ask that You would use even the challenges of this world to draw people to Yourself. Let every storm, whether physical or spiritual, remind us of our need for You.

Lord, if there are areas where we have not fully trusted You, reveal them to us. Help us to surrender our fears, our plans, and our desires to Your perfect will. Strengthen our faith so that we may say with the psalmist, "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we won’t be afraid, though the earth changes, though the mountains are shaken into the heart of the seas" (Psalm 46:1-2).

We also pray for those who do not yet know Jesus as their Savior. Soften their hearts, open their eyes, and lead them to the truth of the Gospel. May they find eternal security in Christ, knowing that He is the only way to the Father.

Father, we trust You with our lives, our families, and our world. May Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. In Jesus’ holy and precious name we pray, Amen.

We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in all things, trusting that He is good even when life is hard. If you have not yet placed your faith in Jesus, we urge you to do so today. He is the only source of true peace and eternal security. If you have questions about salvation or want to know more about walking with Christ, we are here to help. Keep your eyes on Him, for He is faithful to sustain you through every storm.

We hear the unease behind your words, the longing for safety and a quiet sky. When thunderclouds gather and the forecast turns threatening, it’s easy for our minds to race ahead to what could go wrong. Wanting to protect your home, your power, and your sense of stability is deeply human, and we’re grateful you shared this with us.

One simple, concrete step that often helps in moments like these is to act on what you can control. Even this afternoon, you might gather a few basics: a flashlight with fresh batteries, a charged power bank for your phone, a battery-powered radio, and maybe a filled water bottle or two. Knowing you’ve done what you can often settles the heart a bit and gives the mind a job to focus on.

Beyond that, we want to encourage you to anchor your thoughts not on what might happen but on the God who holds every storm in His hands. He is not distant or indifferent, He invites us to pour out our fears to Him and promises to be our refuge, even when the wind howls. Your small request matters to Him, and He sees you reading the radar and praying for the skies to be still.

Please join us as we pray:

Father, we lift up this person who is anxious about the weather. Grant them peace that goes deeper than nerves, and if it brings You glory, quiet the storms that threaten their area. Give them practical wisdom to stay safe, and protect their home and utilities. Most of all, wrap them in a sense of Your steady nearness, so that even in the dark they might know they are held. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The prayer that rises is for the stilling of the elements, a plea that the heavens would not rage, that the earth would not quake, and that the fragile lines of power and communication would hold firm. This is a request born of a natural fear, a dread of the tempest's fury and the darkness it brings. Yet it speaks of a power sought over the outward, the physical, while the true power and the truer safety lie in a different sphere altogether. You have not yet grasped that the Lord’s keeping is not first about the weather's calm, but the soul's security. The power to create a world, the power to divide the rocks, the power to shake the mountains or set them on a blaze is a very inferior power compared with that which is able to keep us from falling. The one who thought he saved the ship by holding a rope in the storm was congratulating himself on a vain thing; the storm’s abating was not of his doing.

Consider that the most terrible storm ever concentrated upon the brow of God’s own Son. It was God who awakened the sword and God who smote the Shepherd with Omnipotent power. The elements you fear are but servants; the tempest that truly mattered was the one that broke over the Saviour for your sin. There, at the Cross, the inflexible character of Divine Justice was displayed. And if you have fled to that shelter, then God’s own royal hand has now become your protection. Your safety lies in a Person, "Now unto Him that is able to keep you from falling...to the only wise God our Savior." The question is never one of God’s willingness, but of His power, and that power is exercised not by stripping us of our free agency, nor by making this world a cushioned room where no harsh wind ever blows.

You ask that no storm come, that the power stays on, as if your well-being depended upon a calm atmosphere and a steady internet connection. My conceptions are too dwarfish, my language too feeble, to compass the grandeur of this theme, but hear this: the displays of terror in nature, the mighty winds and the earthquakes, do not win the heart. Power and displays of terror do not convert the soul. The Lord was not in the wind, not in the earthquake, not in the fire, but in the still small voice. Do not be nervous the next time there is a little storm, or even a great storm. Do not be alarmed when sickness comes. This protection is perpetual as well as personal. He will give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways, ways that sometimes run through a howling wilderness of storm and disaster.

You have a mightier power than ever was wielded by any man apart from his God, yet you let it lie still while you fret over the wind’s direction. Power with God is the true power. This proceeds not from any merit in us, but from something that is in God Himself. When we can truly cry, "Abba! Father!" we put forth a power that moves the arm that moves the universe. Instead of begging to control the clouds, strain the sinews of your supplications for this: that the word would come with power to your soul, that you would know the power of His resurrection. That is an evidencing power, a justifying power, a life-giving power. The power of the Lord is mainly a power to heal, to heal your sin-sickness, to give you power to forgive others, to calm the storm within.

Pray, then, not for the removal of every discomfort, but to be kept from falling into the way of error and fear. Deliver my soul from the lion’s mouth of distrust. The one who prays is often most potent when he leaves the elements to their Maker and instead cries for the keeping of his own heart. The green tree may be dried up by God’s decree, and the mighty systems of Egypt will pass away, but the one who trusts in Jesus Christ is secure on a throne no less precarious than God’s own promise. So look on prayer no longer as a tool to adjust the thermostat of the world, but as a real power to grasp the Saviour, who alone is the shelter in every stormy blast.

Your request shows a soul troubled by the outward storms of this life, yet the greater calm you seek cannot come from merely stilling the weather or preserving the power and the internet. Do you not remember how Christ allowed the tempest to arise so that the disciples would seek Him, and how at His voice the wind ceased? He permits disturbances not to harm you but to draw your heart away from earthly comforts and make His power known in your weakness. When the rains and the lightning threaten, He says to you, “It is I, be not afraid.” If He is the beloved Son, as the Father declared, what need have you to dread the elements? The truly marvellous thing is not a sky free of clouds, but a soul that remains untroubled when the storm rages, standing superior to every terror through virtue.

You plead for the power and the internet not to go out, yet consider this: are not such things as fleeting as the drunken man’s dream, which casts all good things overboard? While you fix your gaze on these, the inward tempest of desire and anxiety only grows. The heaven of the soul need not be darkened by any outward change. It can be brighter than the visible sky, for it holds the Sun of Righteousness. Withdraw yourself from an excessive clinging to these conveniences, lest you be like the paralyzed hull of a shipwrecked vessel, wholly dependent on what can fail in a moment. For He who upholds all things by the word of His power has no need of any created thing to keep you safe. Let your first petition be for an inward calm, a heart cleansed from sin, and you will find that whether the lights remain or go out, you dwell in a peace no storm can shake. Seek first His kingdom, and these matters will be ordered as is best for your soul. For His is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

I hear the anxiety behind your request, that deep desire to be kept safe from the fury of a storm and to avoid losing the comforts you depend on. It is a very human thing to want a hedge of protection around your home, your power, your internet. But I want to gently point you toward something greater than merely having the storm turned off. So often we look for God only in the dramatic intervention, in the sudden calm after a threat, and we miss how He works in the very natural world He has already made. He speaks through the gathering clouds and the rising wind, not just in the stillness after. The problem is that our spiritual senses can be dull, and we are prone not to recognize His hand unless something spectacular happens. Yet the real wisdom is discovering the supernatural woven into the natural.

You are not wrong to ask for deliverance, but consider what it means to know God’s power in the middle of such circumstances. The power that truly matters is not the ability to command the weather but the indwelling power of Jesus Christ that gives you the capacity to face any storm without despair. Remember Paul on that ship in the Mediterranean, when no sun or stars appeared for days, and all hope of being saved was taken away. There was no immediate miracle to calm the sea. Instead, God spoke to Paul in a still, quiet way, promising that every life would be spared. Paul could then say, “Be of good cheer, for I believe God.” The peace did not come from the storm ceasing; it came from trusting the word that had been given.

I understand you fear losing power and internet. That loss feels like being cut off from help and from the world. But ask yourself: where does your true stability lie? The natural man sees only the physical threat and seeks only physical remedies. He cannot grasp how God can be our refuge when every prop is gone. But the spiritual man, the one born of the Spirit, can rest in the fact that he has already been delivered from the power of darkness and translated into the kingdom of God’s beloved Son. That is a deliverance no hurricane can undo. The same God who once stilled the Sea of Galilee now works in ways that often seem entirely ordinary. He gave Paul the practical instruction that the men should eat some food for their health, because natural strength was needed. Supernatural peace does not cancel out sensible, natural action, but it anchors it.

I would encourage you to shift your prayer from simply asking for the storm to be turned off to asking for the wisdom and spiritual sensitivity to discern God’s hand in whatever comes. The fear of the Lord is wisdom; to depart from evil is understanding. When you pray, do not merely beg for an external change, but ask that the power of His Spirit would conform you into His likeness, whether the lights stay on or go out. That power does not draw attention to itself with chills and tinglings but produces a quiet peace that passes understanding. It is all too easy to get on a power trip, wanting a display of authority over nature, but the more excellent way is to know the power of Christ that is made perfect in weakness.

So yes, pray for safety, but pray even more that you would learn to see God in the natural rhythms of the storm, in the shelter He has already provided, and in the strength He gives to endure. The real miracle is not a cloudless sky on demand but a heart that remains steady because Christ in you is the hope of glory. Let that be your resting place.
