Tired and need a holiday

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I haven't been to the seaside for seven years, nor have I had a holiday for two years. I miss the sea and travelling a little. Please pray in Jesus name that God provides me with an opportunity to rest somewhere else (near the sea or in the mountains). You can also pray for inner rest if you wish, but if you really want to pray with me, then pray for travel.Thank you!

We hear your weariness and longing for rest, and we join with you in bringing this request before our Heavenly Father in the mighty name of Jesus. The Bible tells us in Matthew 11:28, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest." You are not forgotten in your exhaustion, and we believe God sees your need for both physical and spiritual renewal.

Father God, we come before You as Your children, lifting up this dear one who is in need of rest and refreshment. Lord, You know the longing in their heart to see the sea again, to feel the wind and the waves, and to experience the peace that comes from being in Your creation. We ask that You would open doors of opportunity for them to travel, whether to the seaside or the mountains, where they can find rest for their body, mind, and soul. Provide the means, the time, and the provision for this journey, Lord, and let it be a time of restoration and joy in Your presence.

We also pray for inner rest, Lord. Even as we ask for physical travel, we know that true peace comes from You alone. Help them to cast their burdens upon You, as 1 Peter 5:7 encourages us: "casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you." Let them find comfort in Your promises and strength in Your love, knowing that You are their refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).

Lord, we rebuke any spirit of weariness or discouragement that may be weighing on them. We declare that You are the God who makes a way where there seems to be no way, and we trust You to provide for this need according to Your riches in glory. May this time of rest, whenever it comes, be a blessing not only to them but also a testimony of Your faithfulness to those around them.

We pray all of this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus, the One who gives us rest and hope. Amen.

We hear the ache behind your words, seven years without the sea, two years without a real break, and a spirit that just needs to feel sand or mountain air again. That yearning isn’t frivolous; God built us with a need for rhythms of work and rest, and the desire to get away and be refreshed is a good, human hunger. We’re joining you in asking Him to open a door for travel.

It’s common to feel guilty or selfish about wanting a holiday, but stepping aside to breathe is often how God replenishes us for the life He’s given us. The sea, in particular, has a way of quieting our inner noise and reminding us that the world is larger than our weariness. We’ll be praying specifically that the Lord makes a way, whether through an unexpected invitation, a short trip you can manage, or a window of time that feels almost like a gift, to put your feet near the water or on a trail. He knows the exact place that would speak rest to your soul.

While you wait, you might start imagining the details: a specific stretch of coast you’d love to visit, or a weekend in the mountains. Not to manufacture anxiety, but to let hope keep your heart alive. In the meantime, give yourself permission to find small escapes, even a local park or a day trip, while trusting that the deeper getaway will come.

We pray with you now:

Father, thank You for creating us to need rest and to delight in beauty. You see this weariness and the years of longing. In Jesus’ name, we ask You to provide an opportunity for real, tangible travel, a chance to stand by the sea or walk in the mountains, to let the soul breathe. Open doors no one can shut, and give wisdom and provision. Until then, grant sustaining peace and glimpses of the refreshment that’s coming. Amen.

Up the crags, pilgrim! Put hand and knee to the steep ascent, for the road is rough but short, and the promise of rest makes amends for the toil. You speak of missing the sea and the mountains, of a weariness that aches for a change of scene and the salt wind. That longing is not unknown to the Shepherd’s heart.

Consider it: He who gives rest is not ignorant of our frame. The true rest He promises is not the stagnation of a spirit left fallow, but rest on the wing, rest in motion, like birds I have heard of that sleep upon the wing. Even the sheep on the mountainside, leaping from stone to stone across the angry brook, find a foothold for a moment amidst the roar. That momentary pause is granted; it is given, not to foster a desire for retreat, but to gather strength for the next bound forward. We have made no provision for retreat; the boats are burned. We must go forward, even till we enter His rest.

Your desire for a holiday is the instinct of a creature that must do or endure, and whose mortal nature cries out for a change. Yet, learn a holy secret: the rest we find in Christ is contentment, perfect satisfaction with our earthly lot, even when the lot is toil. Ambition and avarice spoil rest, and so does a constant craving for what we have not. I have pleaded that the Lord might give you such a season of refreshing, a cleft in the rock from which to view the tumultuous sea of life. But rest in the Lord Himself, not merely in the prospect of a change of air. If He grants you the sound of waves or the sight of crags, receive it as a love-token from His hand. If He withholds it, know that He is teaching you to find Your deep, abiding rest where He finds His, in union with His people and His well-beloved Son. Trust and you shall rest, whether by the sea or in the city, for this is our rest even now, to be with Him.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Weary souls often look to the sea or the mountains for relief, and it is no sin to feel the body's need for change and quiet. Yet you remember what the Apostle says, that many have counted happy those who dwell in caves and mountains, fleeing the world's noise; but unless they find the rest that is in Christ, even the loveliest shore brings only a fleeting calm, and countless darts of care follow close behind.

The Shepherd leads His own to green pastures and still waters, and there is a rest that remains for the people of God, where sorrow and sighing flee away. That rest is not first found in a place made by hands, but in a heart anchored yonder. Our life here is a dream; its pleasures and its pains pass quickly, and we do well not to set our hope too firmly on any journey except the one toward the kingdom.

Still, God who kindles the sun and spreads the air for our life has made provision not only for bare need, but even for our sense of dignity and refreshment. It is lawful to ask for a season by the sea or among the hills, so long as we make provision for the flesh for health and genuine renewal, not to kindle soft desires or to flee duties He has given. If travel becomes a lust, it weighs down the soul; but if it is sought in moderation, as Timothy took a little wine for his stomach's sake, it may restore strength for service.

I will pray, then, that if it be for your true good, God will open a door for such a journey, that your body may be refreshed and your spirit lifted. But far more earnestly I pray that you may enter into the inner rest that no place can give, the charity that is the more excellent way. For even the sea’s vastness is small next to the depth of His love, and the mountains’ height but a shadow of the rest that awaits those who do not harden their hearts through unbelief. Labor to enter that rest, and whether you travel or stay, you will find that He Himself is your holiday and your peace.

I hear the weariness in your words. Two years without a holiday and seven years longing for the sea, that can leave you feeling drained, as if your soul needs room to breathe. God fashioned the sea and the mountains, and He knows how these places can restore us. I will gladly pray that He provides a way for you to travel, to rest your eyes on waves or peaks, and to have the refreshment only a change of scene can bring.

But while we ask for that, I also want to mention something deeper. The Bible speaks often of a rest that isn’t tied to any map. It’s a rest we enter by believing, not by striving. When it feels like we can’t lift another finger, we learn to rest on God Himself, simply trusting that what Christ has done is enough. That kind of peace isn’t a substitute for a holiday; it’s what keeps us steady even when the holiday hasn’t come yet.

So I pray the Lord opens a door for you, whether seaside or mountainside, and that you feel His kindness in the details. But even before that door opens, may you find yourself leaning on Him in a way that leaves you quiet inside. He is our refuge, and His rest is always near.
