tide of emotion

We join you in this honest cry to Jesus in the midst of that tide of emotion and volcano of feelings and fears, and we thank God with you for the gift of gathering with His people in church today.

The Lord understands when our hearts feel overwhelmed and He does not rebuke us for feeling deeply, but He invites us to bring it all to Him. We are reminded of what is written in Philippians 4:6-7, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. And in 1 Peter 5:7, casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.

That perfect peace you asked Jesus for is His promise to those who keep their minds stayed on Him. As Isaiah 26:3 says, You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Jesus Himself said in John 14:27, Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you, not as the world gives, give I to you. Don't let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful. When the waves rise high, we can pray as in Psalm 61:2, When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

We rejoice with you that you were in church today, for it is good to be among the people of God and to be reminded we are not alone. We encourage you to continue to dwell in His presence through prayer, through His Word, and through fellowship with believers.

We pray together now for you. Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one to You. You see the swirling emotions and the fears that feel like a volcano within. We ask You to calm the storm with Your perfect peace that surpasses all understanding. Guard this heart and mind in Christ Jesus, steady every anxious thought, and replace fear with trust in Your unfailing love and care. Thank You for the encouragement of church today, for the worship, the Word, and the fellowship that lifts our souls. Help us to keep our minds stayed on You, to cast every care upon You daily, and to rest upon the Rock that is higher than we are. Fill us with Your peace and let us walk in quiet confidence in You. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

We noticed the way you described this, a tide and a volcano all at once. That is a lot to carry, and we are grateful you brought it honestly to Jesus and that church today was a bright spot for you.

It makes sense that feelings and fears can surge together and feel bigger than words. Sometimes naming it as you did and thanking God for one steady thing, like being with His people today, can be a small anchor when everything feels like it is moving. If the waves keep feeling high this week, it could help to let one person who was at church with you know what you are experiencing, just so you are not holding the volcano alone. You do not have to explain it perfectly, just share that you are asking Jesus for His peace and would value their prayer and company in the days ahead.

We are praying for you now.

Jesus, thank You for meeting them at church today and for hearing every feeling and fear brought to You. We ask You to draw near with Your steady, perfect peace and to guard their heart and mind in the days ahead. Give them rest tonight, trusted people around them this week, and a clear sense of Your presence when emotions run high. We trust them to Your kind care. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your prayer for perfect peace in the midst of a tide of emotion and a volcano of feelings and fears is a prayer which the Lord delights to answer. There is a word given for such a season as yours, "You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You." The margin reads peace, peace, a doubled peace, perfect peace, and this is what Jesus gives.

In this dark world of sin the blood of Jesus whispers peace within. It is not a peace to be waited for in Heaven only, but a present possession to be enjoyed even while duties press and sorrows surge around. To do the will of Jesus, this is rest. To bear your sorrow with Him, to cast all your care upon Him for He cares for you, this is the way of quietness.

You speak of fears, and the Lord so often meets His people with that tender word, Fear not. Fear not, for I am with you. Fear not, I will help you. Fear is weakening and it dishonors the God who has promised to sustain you. Labor then to get rid of fear by trusting the promise. Let your mind be stayed on Christ, not on the surging tide within, but on the One who has vanquished death and all its powers, who was made perfect through sufferings that He might be a perfect Saviour to you, to begin and to carry on and to finish the work.

I thank God with you for the mercy of His house today. It is a foretaste of glory begun below when He gives rest to the heart in the assembly of His people. May the Lord keep you there, with your thoughts stayed upon Him.

Let us pray together. O Lord Jesus, You see this tide of emotion and this heart pressed with many feelings and fears. Keep this trusting soul in Your perfect peace, peace upon peace, as the mind is stayed on You. Whisper peace within by Your blood, calm every fear, and let Your perfect love cast out all dread. Keep this one and all loved ones far away in Your safe keeping, and grant rest in doing Your will until You call us to Heaven's perfect peace. Amen.

Your prayer for perfect peace in the midst of a tide of emotion is heard, and it is good that you have brought these feelings and fears directly to Jesus. He does not turn away from a heart that is stirred and overwhelmed, but invites you to cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.

The peace you ask for is the peace He has promised, not as the world gives, but a steady peace for the mind that stays on Him. When fears rise like a volcano within, remember that He has freed us from anxious fear and given us security in Himself. Bring each fear to Him in prayer with thanksgiving, as Scripture teaches, and His peace which passes all understanding will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus.

I join you in thanking God for the gift of the church today. It is a mercy to gather, to hear His word, to be lifted up and strengthened together, and to be reminded that we are not alone in our struggles.

May the Lord grant you quietness of soul, calm your thoughts, and keep you in His perfect peace as you trust in Him. May He remind you day by day that He is with you, that nothing can separate you from His love, and that He will sustain you through every wave of emotion.

I pray that He will fill you with His peace and strengthen you to rest in Him. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
