The Shepherd's Voice -- Leading, Wisdom, Guidance & Peace of The Holy Spirit, Jn 10:27, Rom 8:14, Col 1:9, Jam 1:5, Heb 11:6, Isa 55:12, Phil 4:6-7...

Jesus, thank You for Your 33 years down here from the manger to humbling Yourself to get baptized by ###, especially the action-packed 3+ years of ministry: teachings, miracles, loaves, fish, nets of fish, resurrections, blind eyes, lame walking, poor hearing the gospel -- the prophecies, living in community with the disciples just "doing life" from Your perspective (reality), putting up with our unbelief, the distortions of the Pharisees and Sadducees, their constant watching You, attempts to trap and trick You -- literally, like WOW -- and finally Your betrayal, rejection and letting Barabbas loose instead... All the self-restraint You showed, the suffering, unjustly in my and our stead and sacrificial death on the cross for my and our sins, shame, sickness... Your burial, resurrection, appearing and teaching for 40 days, ascension, and sending forth The Holy Spirit, our counselor, advocate, intercessor, and bearer of good gifts, 1 Cor 12:4-8.

Thank You Your sheep hear Your voice, John 10:27, and will never follow a stranger, John 10:5. We NEED to hear Your voice of direction -- It is written, "as many as are LED by the HOLY SPIRIT are the children of God," Rom 8:14. We ask to be FILLED with the knowledge of Your Will in all spiritual wisdom so we can walk worthy, Col 1:9-10. We ask for generous amounts of practical WISDOM, James 1:5, we cry out for wisdom and lift our voice for UNDERSTANDING, Prov 2:6-7. So with confidence we seek YOU for You are a rewarder of those who diligently seek You, Heb 11:6. With thanksgiving we offer our requests for Your voice, leading and wisdom -- let "now" the peace of God guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus, Phil 4:6-7. Thank You for protecting us and praying for us, keeping us from the evil one, Rom 8:34, Heb 7:25, Jn 17:15. We shall go out with joy and be led forth with peace, Isa 55:12, thank You for everything, especially for hearing when we ask, for in hearing, we have, 1 John 5:14-15, in Jesus' Name, Amen.

We join with you in this beautiful thanksgiving and cry for the Shepherds voice and we say amen to your prayer for leading, wisdom, guidance and the peace of the Holy Spirit.

We are so encouraged by your remembrance of our Lord Jesus and all He endured for us, from the manger to His baptism, through His earthly ministry of teaching and miracles, through His suffering and rejection when Barabbas was released instead, to His sacrificial death on the cross for our sins and sickness, His burial and resurrection, His forty days of appearing and His ascension and the sending of the Holy Spirit who is our Counselor and Advocate. What a Savior we have who did not spare Himself for us. As it is written, He humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, yes, the death of the cross, Phil 2:8.

We agree with you that we desperately need to hear His voice and be led by Him. Jesus said My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me, John 10:27, and again A stranger they will not follow, John 10:5. And we claim the promise that as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God, Rom 8:14. This is our confidence that as His children we can be led and we can know His will.

We pray together for that filling of wisdom you have asked for. We ask with you that we may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, to walk worthily of the Lord, Col 1:9-10. We take hold of the promise that If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him, Jam 1:5. For Yahweh gives wisdom, out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding, Prov 2:6. And we know that without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing to him, for he who comes to God must believe that he exists, and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him, Heb 11:6.

So we lift our hearts together now and pray. Father, we thank You for Your Son Jesus Christ, for His perfect life, His atoning death and His victorious resurrection, and for the gift of Your Holy Spirit. We thank You that we have access to You only through the name of Jesus, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12, and that through Him we can boldly bring our requests to Your throne. We ask You to fill us afresh with spiritual wisdom and understanding that we may discern Your voice above every other voice and not follow a stranger. Lead us by Your Spirit in every decision, small and great, and grant us practical wisdom for daily life. We bring our requests to You with thanksgiving as You command, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, Phil 4:6, and we ask that the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard our hearts and our thoughts in Christ Jesus, Phil 4:7. Keep us from the evil one as Jesus prayed, I pray not that you would take them from the world, but that you would keep them from the evil one, John 17:15, for Christ also intercedes for us, Rom 8:34, and He is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, seeing that he lives forever to make intercession for them, Heb 7:25. We thank You that when we ask according to Your will You hear us, and if we know that you hear us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of you, 1 John 5:14-15. Lead us forth now with Your joy and peace, for You have said You will go out with joy, and be led out with peace, Isa 55:12. We trust You to guide us step by step as our Good Shepherd, and we thank You for answering this prayer, in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

We were so encouraged by the gratitude in your prayer and by your deep desire to hear the Shepherd and walk in step with Him day by day. That hunger to be led, to have wisdom for real decisions and peace that steadies your heart, is one we share with you.

We find comfort that we are not left to figure this out alone. The Holy Spirit is given to us as Counselor and Helper, to teach and remind us of what is true, to give power for living, and to grow the fruit of love and peace in us. His leading often is not loud or rushed. It tends to come quietly through truth that holds steady, through a growing sense of peace, and through love that looks like Jesus, all working together.

One simple way we have seen many grow in recognizing His voice is to keep a short, unhurried listening space after you pray. With your Bible open, sit quietly for a few minutes, notice what comes to mind, jot it down, and then gently weigh it with Scripture and, when needed, with a trusted mature believer. Over time that rhythm helps you learn His ways more clearly without chasing every impression.

Father, we thank You for this brother or sister who loves You and wants to follow You faithfully. Give generous wisdom for the decisions in front of them, quiet their heart with Your nearness, and guide their steps in Your truth. Help them to know Your leading and to walk in joy and peace as they follow You. In Jesus' name, amen.

There is great comfort in reading a prayer so full of longing to hear the Shepherd's voice and to be led by the Holy Spirit. Your desire is itself a token of grace, for until the Holy Spirit visits us we are dead in trespasses and sins, and have no heart to seek His guidance. To hunger for wisdom, to cry out for understanding, and to ask to be filled with the knowledge of His will is to ask according to the mind of God.

You have blessedly rehearsed the condescension of our Lord, from the manger to His baptism, through those years of teaching and mercy, bearing with unbelief, enduring the watching and malice of Pharisees, and at last restraining His power and giving Himself to betrayal and the cross in your stead. Think also of what followed, His burial and resurrection, His forty days of teaching and His ascension, and then His sending forth the Holy Spirit to be our Counselor and Advocate and Intercessor. This is abundant proof of His love to us, that the Holy Spirit should condescend to make the little narrow heart of man, though it be but a cottage and unclean, His continual abode, to become a lamp to enlighten and a staff on which we may lean.

You do well to plead the promises you have named, that His sheep hear His voice and will not follow a stranger, and that as many as are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God. Remember that the Holy Spirit deals with the things of Christ. He receives of Christ and shows it unto us, and His great work is to glorify Christ. When you are dealing with the things of Christ you are on Holy Spirit ground. And remember also the tender word, Grieve not the Holy Spirit. It is a touching thing that the Spirit should so love us as to be grieved by our unbelief and by our unholiness of life. If we would keep His peace to guard our hearts, we must walk worthy, not vexing that gentle Dove who is the Spirit of peace and gentleness. The question is searching and needful, Have you received the Holy Spirit since you believed, and do you know His indwelling power so that others may see it as surely as a man knows he has felt a shock, by the life and holiness it produces.

Therefore pray in the Holy Spirit and through the Holy Spirit and by His power. The carnal mind knows nothing of this, but the Spirit Himself is willing to help us to pray and to tell us how to pray. There is no rubric except one, in the Holy Spirit. That granted, nothing else matters one whit. Cry mightily unto God for entire dependence upon Him, for without the Holy Spirit you utterly fail, but with Him there is life and force and power. He will give wisdom liberally to them that ask in faith, for He is the Author of all spiritual life and the Spirit of Holiness by whom alone any man becomes holy. He still says, Today if you will hear His voice, harden not your hearts, and He bids His people make haste and delay not.

May the Lord grant your petition according to His will. May He fill you with all spiritual wisdom and understanding, that you may walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing. May He who rewards them that diligently seek Him give you a clear ear for the Shepherd's voice, and may the peace of God which passes all understanding keep your heart and mind through Christ Jesus. May you prove that you have received the Holy Spirit by a life that glorifies Christ, and may you go out with joy and be led forth with peace, kept from the evil one by Him who ever lives to make intercession for you.

We join you in thanksgiving that when we ask according to His will He hears us, and in hearing we have the petitions we desired of Him. May the Holy Spirit show you Christ in His person and His finished work and His present intercession, and so bring you very near to joy and peace this night, in Jesus Name, Amen.
