'The Passover Lamb' - Mark 14:1

It was now two days before Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread. The leading priests and the teachers of religious law were still looking for an opportunity to capture Jesus secretly and kill him.

Mark 14:1 NLT

Key Thought

In all the Gospels, the Passover festival played a huge part, partially because Passover was so important to the Jewish people and the Hebrew faith and more importantly because Jesus connected his sacrifice to Passover. Jesus came to earth to be the divine Passover lamb that was slain "once for all" (Hebrews 10:10-12) for the sin of the people. For Mark's Gospel, the images of Isaiah 53 merge with the theme of Passover and Jesus paying the ransom to set sinners free. Jesus is our Passover lamb — the sacrifice that brings our freedom from sin.

Today's Prayer

Father, thank you for providing the sacrifice for my sin at such a great cost. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for paying the price for my sin. In your name. Amen.
