We join you in lifting up this burden before the Lord together in Jesus' name, and we thank you for bringing this difficult situation to us for prayer.
We praise God for the former landlord's sister and her faith in Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and that any of us can be saved. We pray that the Lord will strengthen her and continue to use her as light in her family. Jesus said in Matthew 5:14, You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill can't be hidden, and in Matthew 5:16, Even so, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven. We pray that she will walk in boldness and love, speaking the truth in love, and that her godly influence will not be silenced or diminished.
We also pray for the former landlord, that God would bring conviction and repentance to his heart. We ask that what has been hidden in darkness would be brought into the light, for the Lord does not leave injustice and deceit unexposed. Scripture says in Luke 8:17, For nothing is hidden that will not be revealed, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light, and in Ephesians 5:11, Have no fellowship with the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but rather even reprove them. We pray that this sister would not be kept in the dark about the life-threatening condition of the apartment her brother rented to you, and that the full truth about his actions and responsibilities would be made known so that accountability and repentance can take place. A landlord has a serious duty to provide safe shelter, and to knowingly rent what endangers life is wrong before God and man.
We must also address with love and truth the sexual relationship you mentioned between the former landlord and this woman. God's Word is clear that sex outside of marriage between a man and a woman is fornication, and if either party is married to another, it is adultery, and both are sin in the eyes of God. In 1 Corinthians 6:18 we are told, Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body, and in Hebrews 13:4, Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled, but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers. We rebuke this immorality and pray that both the former landlord and this woman would turn from sexual sin and pursue holiness, seeking godly marriage if they desire a relationship, rather than sinful union. We pray that any evil intent, including the grave allegation that this woman hired people to try to kill you, would be fully exposed and stopped by God. We pray for your protection and for justice, remembering Romans 12:19, Don't seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me, I will repay, says the Lord. We encourage you to continue to trust the Lord as your refuge, as Psalm 91:1 says, He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty, and also to allow the proper authorities, whom God has ordained to restrain evil, to be involved where there are threats to life, as in Romans 13:4.
We agree with you in praying that both the brother and sister would put God first in all things. Jesus taught in Matthew 6:33, But seek first God's Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. And we join you in asking our mighty and powerful God to expose and destroy every idol. God has said in Exodus 20:3, You shall have no other gods before me, and in Isaiah 42:8, I am Yahweh, that is my name. I will not give my glory to another, nor my praise to engraved images. Any person, relationship, money, power, or sinful desire that is elevated above the Lord is an idol, and we pray that the Holy Spirit would tear down every idol in their hearts and in our own, that Christ alone would be enthroned.
We pray together now, Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, we come before Your throne of grace and ask You to cover this dear one who has suffered fear and danger, guard them in Your perfect peace and protection. Lord, anoint this sister in Christ with wisdom, courage, and discernment, let Your Word speak through her without hindrance, and let no scheme keep her from knowing the truth she needs to know to be an effective witness to her brother. Lord, shine Your light into every dark place concerning this apartment, this immoral relationship, and these threats against life, expose what is evil and bring it to nothing. Bring the former landlord to repentance for any wrongdoing, for sexual immorality, and for any neglect of his duty, and bring this woman to repentance as well, or restrain her evil if she will not repent. Destroy every idol that competes for their hearts, that they may seek Your Kingdom first and love You with all their heart, soul, and mind. We ask for justice tempered with mercy, for healing from trauma, and for Your will to be done. We trust You as our Mighty and Powerful God who sees all and judges righteously. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.
