The former landlord’s Christian sister

Please pray for the former landlord's sister, who has faith in Jesus. Pray that God continues to speak through her and that her positive influence will change the former landlord. Pray that she is not kept in the dark about the life-threatening apartment that her brother rented to me and the evil, immoral woman who had a sexual relationship with the former landlord and most likely hired people to try to kill me

We join you in prayer for this heavy and troubling situation and we thank God for the Christian sister of your former landlord and for her faith in Jesus. We pray that the Lord will strengthen her and use her as a vessel of truth and light in her brother's life.

We are encouraged that she knows the Lord, for we know that those who walk with Christ are called to be light in darkness. Jesus said in Matthew 5:14 that you are the light of the world and in Matthew 5:16 to let your light shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven. We pray that God continues to speak through her with boldness and love, and that she will not be silent when truth needs to be spoken. We pray as in Acts 4:29 that she would speak your word with great boldness, and that her brother would have ears to hear.

We also pray that what has been hidden will be brought into the light. You have asked that she not be kept in the dark about the life threatening condition of the apartment her brother rented to you, and we agree with you. For nothing is hidden that will not be revealed, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light as it says in Luke 8:17. We pray that the truth about the danger you faced will be made known to her and to all for whom it is needed, and that deception will have no place to hide. We are told in Ephesians 5:11 to have no fellowship with the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but rather even to reprove them, and we pray she will be given discernment and courage to reprove what is evil and to advocate for what is right.

We must also address before the Lord the sexual relationship you mentioned between the former landlord and this woman. Scripture is clear that God ordained marriage as a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman and that sexual intimacy belongs only within that marriage. Hebrews 13:4 says let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled, but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers. And 1 Corinthians 6:18 says flee sexual immorality, for every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. What you have described is fornication, and if either party was married to another, it is also adultery, and it is sin before a holy God. We rebuke this immorality and we pray for genuine repentance for both the former landlord and this woman, that they would turn from sexual sin and from all other evil. We pray that God would grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth as in 2 Timothy 2:25.

We are deeply burdened to hear that you believe this woman most likely hired people to try to kill you. To take or attempt to take a life is a grave violation of God's command in Exodus 20:13 you shall not murder, and it is an attack on one made in God's image. We pray for your protection and for justice. We thank God that He is your refuge and fortress. Psalm 91:1-2 says he who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty, we will say of Yahweh, He is our refuge and our fortress, our God, in whom we trust. And Psalm 34:7 says the angel of Yahweh encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. We ask the Lord to surround you with His protection, to heal you from trauma and fear, and to let no weapon formed against you prosper. We also pray that if a crime was committed, the truth would be fully revealed and that lawful authorities, who are appointed by God to bear the sword against wrongdoing as in Romans 13:4, would act justly. We pray that vengeance would be left in God's hands as Romans 12:19 reminds us that vengeance belongs to the Lord, and that you would be given peace as you trust Him to repay and to bring justice in His perfect way.

We lift up the former landlord himself, that his heart would be changed by the positive godly influence of his sister and ultimately by the Holy Spirit. We pray that he would confess and forsake his wrongdoing, for Proverbs 28:13 says he who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy. We pray that he would come to true repentance and, if he does not yet truly know Christ, that he would come to saving faith in Jesus.

We pray together now, Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, our only mediator and Savior, and we lift up this sister in Christ to You. Strengthen her faith, fill her with wisdom and love, and let Your word speak through her without fear. Open her eyes to the truth about what her brother has done and the danger that was placed upon this dear one who is praying. Let no lie remain hidden, let Your light expose darkness, and let Your truth bring conviction and change. We pray for the former landlord, that You would convict him of sexual immorality and of renting a life threatening dwelling, and bring him to repentance and restitution. We pray for the woman involved in immorality and in this alleged evil plot, that You would either bring her to repentance or restrain her evil and bring her deeds to justice. And we pray for the one who submitted this request, that You would cover them with Your protection, heal their body and mind, give them peace that surpasses understanding, and guide them to wise counsel and lawful help where needed. Let all that is done bring glory to You and lead to righteousness. We ask all this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus, amen.

We encourage you to continue to pray fervently, to remain in the Word, and to seek wise godly counsel and also to take appropriate lawful steps to ensure your safety and to report life threatening conditions and threats to the proper authorities, trusting that God works through both prayer and through justice. We encourage you to cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you as in 1 Peter 5:7, and to trust that God will work even this painful trial for good for those who love Him as promised in Romans 8:28.

We hear how heavy this season has been for you, and how much you have been carrying around that apartment and what you experienced there. It makes sense you would want someone with good influence and faith in Jesus to know the truth and to be a steady voice for what is right.

We are praying with you for the former landlord's sister, that the Lord would keep strengthening her faith and give her wisdom and courage to speak with love and clarity where she can. We also pray for you, for safety, for peace in your home, and for wise next steps as you sort through what happened.

When a housing situation has felt threatening and there are strong concerns about others' actions, it can help to not carry it alone. If you haven't already, it may be good to talk through what you experienced with a trusted pastor or counselor and with a couple of safe, level-headed people who know you locally. They can help you think through any practical steps for your wellbeing and housing, and support you as you process the hurt that is still fresh.

Father, we bring this sister to You and ask You to keep her close to You and to guide her words and actions. We bring our friend to You too, asking for Your protection, for calm and rest, for healing from this difficult experience, and for clear wisdom for each decision ahead. Lead them to safe community and steady support. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your request has been heard and we join you in bringing it before the throne of grace, where God loves the mercy seat and never forsakes those who seek Him there.

We grieve with you over the trial you have endured in that life threatening apartment and over the fear that has settled upon your soul like a weight dragging you toward the pit. The Lord has permitted this affliction to come distinctly from the hands of men, through persecution and malice, and yet we know He acts from good reasons and even such sorrows may bear the aspect of chastening from a Father's hand. For this reason we may wisely moderate our anger against second causes and look above them to Him who alone can deliver. Remember the word, Deliver him from going down to the Pit, I have found a ransom. Nobody would have thought of that way of deliverance from the pit of hell through a ransom if God had not thought of it, and He has not only invented the way but has found the ransom in His own Son. In Christ there is deliverance from guilt and deliverance from the power of darkness, and deliverance from the power of sin is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin.

We pray first for you, that the Lord who has chastened you sorely will not give you over unto death, but will keep back your soul from the pit and your life from perishing. Fear not, for He says, Fear not, I am with thee. Fear is weakening and dishonors God, and He would have you know that He has not erased your name from His heart or His hands. Though men may threaten the body, they are not able to kill the soul. May the Lord grant you to be hidden with Christ, free from fear because all your interests are secure in Him, and to live to declare the works of the Lord after this affliction.

We pray for the sister in Christ of whom you speak. We thank God for her faith in Jesus, for salvation is through Him alone, and we ask that the Lord will continue to speak through her and make her a clear and courageous witness. We ask that she not be kept in the dark, but that the truth concerning what you suffered in that dwelling be brought into the light, for God brings darkest conspiracies to confusion and provides escape from the most perilous exposure. May she walk in truth and love, speaking what is right and good, and may her positive influence be used by the Spirit to call her brother to account.

We pray for the former landlord himself, that God would be gracious unto him and command deliverance for him. We cannot ask God to bless what is contrary to His holy will, for marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman and all sexual union belongs within it, and what is outside it is sin that brings men under the power of darkness. We pray instead that he may be delivered from the fascinating power of sin and from the power of darkness, that he may see the mischief of his way, repent, and be washed thoroughly from his iniquity and cleansed from his sin through the ransom God has provided. We pray that any evil intent against you would be restrained and brought to nothing, and that justice and truth would prevail according to God's righteous will.

We pray that the Lord who grants protection to the persecuted will keep you in perfect peace, that you will labor to get rid of fear by trusting His promise that He will help you, and that you will find succor and solace not apart from the Rock but in Christ your Ark. May He deliver you from all evil company, from the devil, and from your own fears, and make you to know that if He gave His own dear Son to put away your sin, He will also give you all things needful for life and godliness.

O Lord, be gracious unto these thy servants. Deliver them from going down to the pit, for thou hast found a ransom. Deliver from the power of darkness and translate into the kingdom of thy dear Son. Let the sister speak with wisdom and boldness, let the brother hear and repent, and let the afflicted one not die but live and declare thy works. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our only hope, to whom be glory. Amen.
