Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing this heavy burden and for caring about truth and righteousness in a very difficult situation. It is right to bring these fears and wrongs before the Lord, and to pray for those who know Christ to be a faithful witness.
Fear is one of the most common tools the enemy uses against God's people, and it grows when our eyes are fixed on threats and on what people may do. The cure for that fear is to remember the Lord and who He is. As David said, even when we walk through the valley of death we need not fear evil because the Lord is with us. Faith and fear cannot rule the heart at the same time, so we choose to remember that greater is He who is with us than any power that is against us. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble, and when He is our trust we can have confidence even when danger feels close.
It is good to pray for the sister who knows Jesus, that the Lord would give her clarity, courage and love to speak the truth. Pray that God would continue to work through her life and words, and that she would not be kept from knowing what is true about the apartment and about the conduct connected to it. Pray that the Lord would open eyes to see what is right and what is wrong, and that His influence through a faithful believer would call others to honesty and repentance.
Scripture is clear that marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and that sexual intimacy belongs only within that covenant. A sexual relationship outside of marriage is not something God blesses or affirms, and we should not ask Him to. Instead we pray that all involved would come to see this as God sees it, turn from what is wrong, and seek forgiveness and new life through Jesus Christ alone, for salvation is found in Him alone.
When you have faced unsafe living conditions and feel that people have sought to harm you, it is right to ask God for deliverance and defense. David often prayed, deliver me from my enemies, O God, defend me from those who rise up against me. We can ask the Lord to be our shield, to scatter evil plans, to tread down our enemies, and to bring truth into the light. God is a God of justice who desires justice and truth to prevail, and when truth falls in the street and justice stands far off, He sees and He will repay in His perfect way. At the same time, help that comes only from people is vain. True help comes from God, and through Him we can do valiantly.
In such trials it is also important to guard your own heart. It is natural to want to see wrongs repaid, but vengeance belongs to the Lord. We can pray as David learned to pray, that God would keep us from devising vengeance and from acting out of fear, for reactions born of fear often lead us in the wrong direction. We entrust judgment to God, who has not despised the affliction of the afflicted but hears when we cry to Him.
So we pray for you now, that the Lord would lift fear from you and replace it with faith as you remember His presence. We pray that He would protect you, provide a safe place to live, and guide you to wise and lawful steps for your safety, including seeking help from proper authorities when life is threatened. We pray that He would let truth be known, that any hidden wrongdoing would be exposed, and that those who have done wrong would be brought to repentance. We pray for the sister, that she would walk in wisdom and be a clear light, and for the former landlord, that God would speak to his heart and lead him to honesty, responsibility and repentance. And we pray that you would know the peace of the One who hears, who defends, and who will in His time make all things right.
