The Courage to Think, Decide and Act

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Lord Jesus Christ, sharpen my mind to think critically, objectively, and deeply. Give me wisdom to examine facts, question assumptions, recognize patterns, and distinguish truth from error. Help me reason calmly under pressure, consider different perspectives, and make sound decisions. Remove confusion and fear, and develop in me a disciplined, analytical, and courageous mind. “The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom.” — Proverbs 4:7

We join you in this prayer for a sharpened mind and courageous heart and we thank you for seeking the Lord Jesus Christ for wisdom, for He is the source of all true understanding.

We are encouraged by your desire to think critically, objectively and deeply, to examine facts, question assumptions and distinguish truth from error. This honors God when it is anchored in His truth. The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom. All those who practice it have a good understanding Proverbs 111:10 and we are reminded that wisdom is supreme. Get wisdom. Yes, though it costs all your possessions, get understanding Proverbs 4:7. God delights to give this wisdom to those who ask in faith, for it is written If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him James 1:5. For Yahweh gives wisdom. Out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding Proverbs 2:6. We are also called to be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God Romans 12:2 and to reason together with Him as He says Come now, and let us reason together Isaiah 1:18.

We also pray with you for calmness under pressure and courage to decide and act. Fear and confusion do not come from God, for God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control 2 Timothy 1:7. True courage is strengthened when we trust Him fully, as we are told Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight Proverbs 3:5-6 and Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be dismayed, for Yahweh your God is with you wherever you go Joshua 1:9.

Father, we come before You together in the name of Jesus Christ and lift up this request to You. We ask You to sharpen this mind that You have created, to grant clarity, discernment and sound judgment. Remove confusion and fear and fill this heart with Your peace which surpasses all understanding. Develop a disciplined, analytical and courageous mind that seeks truth, loves wisdom and is willing to stand for what is right. Help to examine all things carefully, to consider different perspectives with humility, to recognize patterns and to reject error while holding fast to what is true and good. Give wisdom to make sound decisions that honor You and courage to act faithfully and promptly according to Your will. May every thought be brought into obedience to Christ and may this life reflect Your wisdom and glory. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to abide in the Word daily, for it is the final standard for testing every idea and assumption, and to bring every decision before the Lord in prayer, trusting that He who has begun a good work will give you both the wisdom to know His way and the courage to walk in it.

We were encouraged reading your prayer for a clear and courageous mind. Wanting to think deeply, weigh facts honestly, and act with steadiness under pressure is a good and humble request, and we are grateful you brought it to the Lord so directly.

One thing that helps when confusion and pressure rise is to give that desire for wisdom a simple structure. Before deciding, it can help to get clear on what your actual goal is in this situation, what resources and wise counsel you already have, what alternatives are truly in front of you, and then to commit to one small faithful next step you can take and later review. Writing those pieces down on paper, even briefly, often quiets fear because it moves the decision out of swirling thoughts and into something you can see and pray over calmly. It also leaves room to invite a trusted, level headed believer to look at it with you.

We are praying for you as you practice this kind of steady thinking.

Jesus, we bring our friend to You and ask for Your help to sharpen and steady their mind. Remove confusion and fear and give them calm, clear judgment to see what is true, to weigh perspectives wisely, and to act with courage. Guide each decision they face and make their thinking disciplined and peaceful as they trust You. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

It is a right and needful prayer you have brought before the Lord, for wisdom is man's true compass across the trackless waste of life, and without it we are as the wild ass's colt running here and there and wasting strength which might be profitably employed.

You have done well to ask, for the Scripture says, If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not, and it shall be given him. We all lack it, we are all poor foolish creatures, yet here is the comfort, He gives wisdom if we ask for it, and He gives it liberally and does not chide us for our folly. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering, for he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. Let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord if he comes with a divided heart. Come then with a steady faith, believing that the Lord can give you wisdom ready made, and that He will.

Remember where this wisdom is to be found. The price of wisdom is above rubies, it cannot be valued with pure gold, and it is not found in the wisdom of the Egyptians nor in the wisdom of the English, for the human wisdom of one age is the folly of the next. Christ Himself is the power of God and the wisdom of God. He planned the way of salvation, He laid the foundations of the great plan of atonement, and He built the heavens by wisdom. If you would find wisdom, you must find it in Him, and in the word of revelation which testifies of Him. Study therefore the Scriptures with a view to the practical testing of what you learn, and study your prayers also, that you may know what you ask and why you ask it.

You ask for a disciplined, analytical and courageous mind, able to examine facts, to distinguish truth from error, and to reason calmly under pressure. This also is of faith. Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, yet it was not that learning which enabled him to decide. When he was come to years he refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, and adding all things up and making a deliberate calculation of the whole business he believed it must be right and wise to stand on that side which was in agreement with the living God. It was faith, faith alone, that enabled him to arrive at his decision and to carry it out. So shall it be with you. Faith in Jehovah will make your thinking clear and your decision firm, so that you do not go the way the current goes, but make a clear choice for the Lord and stand to it.

Therefore I pray with you that the Lord Jesus Christ, who is wisdom itself, would sharpen your mind and give you a sound mind, that He would remove confusion and fear, and grant you calmness under pressure, patience to consider different perspectives, and courage to act upon what is true and right. May He teach you to question assumptions in the light of His truth, to recognize patterns according to His order, and to make sound decisions that honor Him. May you seek wisdom as the beginning of wisdom directs, Get wisdom, and with all thy getting get understanding, and may you find it in Christ, in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Your prayer for a sharpened and disciplined mind is good, and God delights to give wisdom to those who ask Him for it. As it is written, Get wisdom, and with all your getting get understanding, and you have asked according to His will.

True wisdom is not only skill in examining facts and recognizing patterns. There is a wisdom of this world which seems clever but ends here and cannot profit its possessors, and there is the wisdom of God which is hidden in mystery and revealed by His Spirit. The first trusts only in itself and though it seems to be wisdom it becomes foolishness. The second makes us truly wise and prudent, because God tells us His secrets and shows us what is in His heart. So in your desire to think critically and objectively, ask above all for that wisdom from above, that your analytical mind would be guided by the Spirit and not by confidence in your own powers alone. Then you will be able to distinguish truth from error, and to reason calmly even under pressure.

With that wisdom comes right courage. Courage is not audacity or an unbridled tongue that speaks boldly for its own sake, nor is it rash action under pressure. True courage is the steady boldness to do what is right before God, to speak truth with grace, and to endure with joy even when it costs. Like those who departed with joy after being opposed, such courage remains calm, considers different perspectives, redeems the time, and walks in wisdom toward those outside the faith, not seeking needless conflict but not shrinking from the truth.

I pray for you now that the Lord Jesus Christ will answer your request. May He remove confusion and fear from your mind, and give you a clear, sober, and disciplined understanding. May He teach you to question assumptions humbly, to weigh facts honestly, to see patterns rightly, and to decide with prudence and courage. May He make you wise in what is true wisdom, prudent in what is true prudence, and courageous in doing His will, so that your thoughts, decisions, and actions may be pleasing to Him and useful to others.

Continue to seek Him daily in His Word and in prayer, for He gives wisdom generously to all who ask without doubting. May He establish your mind in peace and strengthen you to act faithfully on what you know to be true.
