The wheels of that new chariot should ever turn toward the sanctuary of praise! You have rightly seen the hand of the Lord in this temporal mercy, and now let it be a window through which you gaze upon the far greater storehouse of spiritual blessings in Christ Jesus. An enlightened man is grateful to God for temporal blessings, but he is much more grateful to God for spiritual blessings, for temporal blessings do not last long, they are soon gone. Let this car be a reminder that He who has given you all these things has, in the fullness of the covenant, already given you a new heart and blessed you with all spiritual blessings in the heavenly places in Christ.
You asked for help to thank Him in everything, small and big. This is the very essence of the life hid with Christ! Do not fall into the common sin of wanting gratitude for mercies possessed. Break the silence, speak of His glory! Let this not remain a private joy whispered in the quiet of your own soul, but declare the name of the Lord in Zion, and His praise in Jerusalem. Praise is no more a burden to a true heart than song to a bird, or perfume to a flower. Let your acts be acts of praise, as well as your words. It is good to know on whose head we are to put the crown; if anybody should praise the prudence that found such a vehicle, always pass on the praise to Him that is able to keep you from falling, for He deserves it all.
See that you render praise to Him now. Will it not do if we praise Him when the end comes? No, let it be now and ever. With my whole soul I praise delivering Grace, and I urge you to the same holy resolve. Let this be your soul’s determination: “I will praise You: for You have heard me, and have become my salvation.” As you roll along the road, let your joyful song be, “My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise!” He delivered you because He delights in you, so let your delight in Him produce a life of perpetual, tangible gratitude.
