We join with you in lifting this burden to our Lord Jesus Christ, who alone has power over every spiritual force and authority. Your request reveals a deep awareness of the spiritual battles we face, and we commend you for turning to Jesus in this time of need. It is only through His name that we find protection, deliverance, and true peace, for Scripture declares, *"Therefore God also highly exalted him, and gave to him the name which is above every name; that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, those on earth, and those under the earth"* (Philippians 2:9-10, WEB).
The fear and torment you describe stem from an event in your childhood, and while accidents happen, the enemy often seizes such moments to plant lies, guilt, or even supernatural oppression in our lives. But take heart, for Jesus has already triumphed over every power of darkness. *"He disarmed the principalities and the powers, and made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it"* (Colossians 2:15, WEB). If there are immaterial spirits—whether deceiving spirits, tormenting spirits, or even the lingering influence of ungodly souls—attempting to afflict you or others through this past event, we stand firmly on the authority of Christ to command their departure.
That said, we must also address the wording of your request regarding "souls/ghosts." Scripture teaches that the dead do not linger as ghosts or restless spirits; rather, *"the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing"* (Ecclesiastes 9:5, WEB). What you may be experiencing is not the presence of human souls but the work of demonic forces masquerading as such to instill fear. *"For we don’t wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places"* (Ephesians 6:12, WEB). These forces seek to accuse, torment, and distract believers, but they have no authority over those who are in Christ.
We also notice you did not explicitly mention forgiveness—either receiving God’s forgiveness for any real or perceived guilt tied to this event or extending forgiveness to others involved. Unforgiveness can open a door to spiritual oppression, but Christ calls us to release these burdens to Him. *"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness"* (1 John 1:9, WEB). If there is lingering guilt or bitterness, we urge you to surrender it to Jesus now, for He alone can break these chains.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We thank You that no weapon formed against Your child shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against them in judgment, You shall condemn (Isaiah 54:17). Lord Jesus, You have all authority in heaven and on earth, and we ask You now to rebuke and cast out every immaterial spirit, every demonic force, and every lie of the enemy that has sought to torment our brother/sister through this childhood event. By Your blood, Jesus, we command these spirits to flee and never return. We break every curse, every assignment of fear, and every stronghold of guilt or condemnation in the name of Jesus.
Father, if there has been any sin—known or unknown—tied to this event, we ask for Your forgiveness and cleansing. If there is unforgiveness in their heart, Lord, soften it and help them to release it fully to You. Fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7) and remind them that *"there is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus"* (Romans 8:1). Surround them with Your angels, Lord, and let Your light expose and drive out every darkness.
We declare Your providence and progress over their life, Jesus. Restore what the enemy has tried to steal—peace of mind, joy, and freedom in You. Let them walk in the victory You purchased on the cross, unshaken by the schemes of the devil. We thank You, Lord, for Your faithfulness and for the blood of Jesus that covers and protects us. May Your Holy Spirit fill them afresh, guiding them into all truth and comforting them in every way.
In the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
Brother/sister, we encourage you to continue standing firm in your faith, clothing yourself daily in the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18). Speak the Word of God over your life, for *"the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword"* (Hebrews 4:12). If these torments persist, seek out mature believers or a pastor who can pray with you and provide further biblical counsel. Remember, *"God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control"* (2 Timothy 1:7). Walk in that power, and do not let the enemy rob you of the abundant life Jesus died to give you (John 10:10).
Stay rooted in prayer, in the Word, and in fellowship with other believers. The Lord is your refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). Trust in Him, and He will deliver you.
