You have been saying “Thank You Lord” over and over, and your heart is bubbling up like a spring that cannot be held back. That is the music heaven loves best, a soul that stands on the threshold of a great deliverance and can do nothing but bless the name of the Lord.
Do you know what has happened? The Lord has crowned your year with goodness. You may have been in deep waters, where the proud waves looked as though they would swallow you up, but He reached down and set your feet on a rock. Perhaps you were like those prisoners groaning in chains, and He loosed you. Perhaps you were even appointed unto death, and He said, “Live.” Now the life you have is not your own; it is a gift borrowed from the kindness of God, and every breath must be a thanksgiving.
I am glad you are not silent. It is a pitiful thing when unbelief governs the tongue, but when faith opens the mouth, the lips drop sweet-smelling myrrh. Your words of thanks are not lost in the air; they rise as incense before the throne. And more than that, they become a testimony to those around you. As the Psalmist said, “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord,” so your gratitude becomes a banner lifted high for other trembling hearts to see.
Never think that this happy spirit has come to you by chance. It is a lesson learned at the Master’s feet, often in the hard school of adversity. You are discovering that He who gave you His Son will also freely give you all things. The same hand that multiplied the loaves and restored the fevered woman has touched your life with a miracle of love. And as you look back, you will find that His goodness has been strewn along your path like the manna in the wilderness, enough for each day, and sometimes a double portion before a sabbath of rest.
So, keep on blessing Him. Let your whole household be a place of praise, where the memory of this mercy lingers like the fragrance after a summer rain. The God who has done this is a covenant God, and He will never forget His promise. He has given you meat for your body and gladness for your heart; He will not let you go hungry again forever. As you go forward, the same keeping power that has upheld you will preserve you to the end, and at the last He will present you faultless before His presence with exceeding joy. That will be the crowning of all, when the harvest of grace is fully gathered in, and we shall say, not with a few brief words, but with endless hallelujahs, “Thank You, Lord.”
Lord, we bless Thee for this dear child of Thine, whose heart overflows with song. Thou hast lifted him from the miry clay and put a new song in his mouth. Seal this day upon his spirit, and let the sunshine of Thy face go with him into every tomorrow. Keep him in perfect peace, for his trust is in Thee. In the precious name of Jesus, Amen.
