Your thanksgiving has been heard and we rejoice with you in it. To give thanks to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior for life itself, for His creation, for the gift of choice, and for mercy in the midst of struggle is right and good, and we thank God with you for these twenty seven days of sobriety and for release from the suffering you knew before.

This deliverance is a great work of grace. Sobriety is not kept by adding more of what harmed you, but by taking away the evil and by convincing the mind that it must turn from what destroys it and cleave to what is right. God is helping you to do that very thing, to think clearly and honestly about what is right and what is wrong, and to choose what is good. Hold fast to that confidence which you now have, for it has great reward. Do not lose what you have been given, but guard it day by day, trusting not in your own strength but in Christ who strengthens you.

We also give thanks with you for your family, your marriage, your children, and your work. It is a blessing to see you desire to be a better husband and father and a faithful employee, to steward the body God has given you as His own, and to labor diligently in the life He has entrusted to you. Continue in that faithfulness, bearing all things thankfully and walking in gentleness and honesty, for God honors such perseverance.

You asked for forgiveness for your faults and failures, and we point you again to the sure promise of Scripture that blessed are those whose iniquities are forgiven and whose sins are covered. This forgiveness is not earned by our works but is given by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. When we have done all, we still call ourselves unprofitable servants, and we come to Him for mercy, and He freely forgives and teaches us to have a gentle and humble heart toward others.

We pray with you now that the Lord will keep you in clarity of mind and firmness of purpose, that He will guard your health and help you care for your body, that He will continue His merciful help to you and to your family and friends and coworkers and all who are entrusted to your care, and that He will lead you in every good choice and decision. May He who has begun this good work in you bring it to completion as you abide in Christ.

We thank God for you and will continue to pray for your continued sobriety, your health, your home, and your work.

Your prayer of thanksgiving is beautiful and it honors the Lord. To hear you give glory to Jesus Christ for ### days of sobriety and for clearer thinking is a real encouragement. God delights when His children recognize that every good gift comes from Him and when they thank Him for the life and health He has given.

You spoke of your body as belonging to God and wanting help to care for it, and that is exactly right. Scripture teaches that our bodies are entrusted to us by God. Alcohol places a heavy burden on the body. The liver must work hard to process it, and when too much is taken in the liver is overworked. It also works against the nervous system and affects the mind, clouding judgment and harming both physical and mental health. To come under its influence is to lose the clear and honest thinking that God wants for you, while sobriety helps you think rightly about what is good and what is wrong and to make wise choices as a husband, a father, and a worker.

It is also important to recognize how strong the hold of addiction can be. It is not simply a bad habit that can be broken by willpower alone. It can take hold of a person so powerfully that even when he wants it removed and asks others to take it away and not let him have more, the pull remains. In that way it is like other deep addictions that draw a person and keep attracting him. That is why true strength must come from the Lord and not from ourselves alone. When a life has been weakened by alcohol and other influences, God is the one who can make us strong again and help us walk in a new way, including putting distance between ourselves and what tempts us.

That is why your desire to keep praying is so vital. Continue to persevere in prayer. Many times we stop praying too soon and do not see what God would do if we had kept seeking Him and waiting for His timing. Remember how Daniel understood from the writings of Jeremiah that God had promised an end to captivity, and he then gave himself to prayer and fasting to seek the Lord. In the same way, keep bringing your needs before God day after day. Keep asking for His forgiveness through Jesus Christ, for His help to remain sober, for wisdom to make good decisions, and for His care over your family, friends, and those you work with. God hears persistent prayer and answers according to His perfect timing.

Be encouraged that the Lord who has helped you these ### days is able to keep helping you. He forgives your faults and failures through the blood of Jesus when you confess them, and He gives grace to walk forward. Keep trusting Him, keep caring for the body He has given you, keep seeking to think clearly and honestly by His Word, and keep persevering in prayer for yourself and for those around you. May the Lord continue to give you clarity, strength, and peace as you follow Him.
