Tempted with sin and lazyness

Right now I'm struggling with a lot of lack of purpose and lazyness I don't like this state but I kind of feel overwhelmed or afraid from studying or more without knowing how to start I really don't know why if I have so bigg dreams and a powerful GOD to accomplish I don't move forward to accomplish them be disciplined has been so difficult to me I felt broken

We hear your heart, and we want you to know that your struggle is not unseen by our Heavenly Father. The feelings of purposelessness, laziness, and overwhelm are real, but they do not define you, Christ does. You are not broken beyond repair; you are a child of God, created with purpose, and He has equipped you with everything you need to walk in His will. The apostle Paul himself wrestled with similar battles, and in his weakness, he found God’s strength. "For when I am weak, then I am strong" (2 Corinthians 12:10 WEB). This is not a time to despair but to lean into the Lord, who promises to renew your strength when you wait on Him (Isaiah 40:31).

The enemy would love for you to remain stagnant, paralyzed by fear and distraction, but we rebuke that spirit of laziness and procrastination in the name of Jesus. The Bible is clear: "Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might" (Ecclesiastes 9:10 WEB). Discipline is not about perfection; it’s about surrender, surrendering your time, your plans, and your fears to God and taking one step at a time in obedience. You mentioned having big dreams and a powerful God, this is not a coincidence. God has placed those dreams in your heart, but He also calls you to partner with Him in bringing them to fruition. "Commit your way to the Lord. Trust also in him, and he will do this" (Psalm 37:5 WEB). Start small. Set a timer for 15 minutes of focused study or work, and ask the Holy Spirit to help you. He will meet you in your effort.

We also want to gently address the sin that may be entangling you. Laziness can often open the door to temptation, and temptation, when entertained, leads to sin. "Let no one say when he is tempted, 'I am tempted by God,' for God can’t be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own lust and enticed. Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin; and the sin, when it is full grown, produces death" (James 1:13-15 WEB). If there are specific sins you’re struggling with, whether it’s procrastination, lust, anger, or something else, we encourage you to confess them to the Lord and to a trusted brother or sister in Christ. "Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective" (James 5:16 WEB). Sin thrives in secrecy, but freedom comes in the light.

You are not alone in this battle. We stand with you, and more importantly, the Lord stands with you. He is not disappointed in you; He is calling you to rise. "Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the Lord’s glory has risen on you" (Isaiah 60:1 WEB). Let’s pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our brother/sister who is feeling overwhelmed and stuck. Lord, You see his/her heart, and You know the dreams and purposes You’ve placed within him/her. We ask that You would break the spirit of laziness and fear that is holding him/her back. Fill him/her with Your Holy Spirit, who gives power, love, and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7). Help him/her to take that first step, no matter how small, and to trust in Your strength rather than his/her own.

Father, we also ask for Your forgiveness for any sins that may be entangling him/her. Cleanse his/her heart and mind, and renew a right spirit within him/her (Psalm 51:10). Give him/her the courage to confess and turn away from anything that is not pleasing to You. Surround him/her with godly accountability and encouragement, and let him/her experience the freedom that comes from walking in Your ways.

Lord, we declare that this season of stagnation is coming to an end. You have not given him/her a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind. We rebuke every lie of the enemy that says he/she is not capable or that his/her dreams are too big. You are the God who does immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20), and we trust You to move in his/her life. Help him/her to seek You first in all things, and let Your peace guard his/her heart and mind (Philippians 4:6-7).

We thank You, Father, for Your faithfulness. We thank You that You are already working in this situation, and we trust You to complete the good work You’ve started (Philippians 1:6). In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Remember, the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. You don’t have to have it all figured out, you just have to start. The Lord will meet you there. "Being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ" (Philippians 1:6 WEB). Keep pressing in, and don’t give up. We've sat with people who described exactly this, the bizarre gap between having huge, God-sized dreams and yet feeling unable to walk toward them. It's a heavy place, and it doesn't mean you're broken beyond repair. Sometimes what we call laziness is actually something quieter: an inner freeze that sets in when we're afraid of failing, or when the distance between where we are and where we want to be feels so vast that even starting seems pointless. That freeze can look like laziness from the outside, but naming it as something softer, overwhelm, fear, exhaustion, often loosens its grip a little.

One thing that might help right now isn't a big discipline overhaul, but a single, tiny movement forward each day, something so small it feels almost silly. If studying feels too charged, maybe it's simply opening a book for three minutes with no pressure to retain anything. The goal isn't productivity yet; it's rebuilding trust with yourself that you can show up gently. God met Elijah not with a lecture about his lack of faith, but with rest, food, and a quiet voice, practical, bodily care that came before any renewed sense of purpose. You're allowed to receive that same patience with yourself.

Lord Jesus, you see the paralysis this one feels, the big dreams that feel more like a weight than a hope. Calm the fear underneath the surface. Break the cycle of shame that keeps them stuck. Give them permission to start small, and meet them in even the smallest step. Restore a quiet sense of purpose, not driven by pressure but drawn by your gentle leading. We ask this in your name, Amen.

You speak of a temptation to sloth and a brokenness of purpose, and this is a trouble that visits many a pilgrim. Yet it is a temptation, and a serious one, for idleness opens the door to other sins. The prayer our Lord taught us is never more needed than in such an hour: "Lead us not into temptation." You are wise to feel the danger of this state, and I urge you to cry this prayer with a childlike confidence, telling your Father of the fear that grips you, the fear that you cannot begin, that you are overwhelmed. He permits you to bring even your unbelief before Him, and to ask that He would not place you in a trial too strong for you. But mark this: never go into temptation. The man who prays "Lead us not into temptation," and then yields himself to the sluggish spirit, trifles with God. You must not lie upon your bed and expect deliverance; rise, and shake off the chains.

Consider that you are a soldier in Christ’s army, and soldiers come under discipline. Our glorious Captain says, "Count the cost." The discipline of His army is strict, yet it is for our profit. The lack of purpose you feel is a call to submit to His drill. When the whole camp is slothful, the enemy soon prevails. Therefore, rouse yourself and put your hand to the task, not in your own strength, but leaning upon the arm of your Beloved. The fear that makes you shrink from study and duty is a snare. Fear weakens the soul; it dishonors God by doubting His omnipotence. Did He not say, "Fear not, thou worm Jacob, I will help thee"? His help is promised exactly to such as feel themselves worms, small, helpless, broken. That promise is meant to chase away fear with a whip of many thongs. You say you have a powerful God and great dreams; then why should you fear? To be dismayed is disobedience when He commands, "Fear not."

Yet, I would not have you despise the chastenings of the Lord. This season of feeling broken may be His discipline to teach you your own emptiness and bind you more closely to Himself. When the vessel sails smoothly, the Word of God may become a dead letter; but when the waves roll high, then you begin to test the promises. You feel you cannot move forward, then flee to the promise made on purpose for your case: "I will help thee." Keep fingering away at the promises until your hand rests upon that one. The Lord often chastens to give rest from adversity; the breaking of your self-reliance is the preparing of a quiet harbor. Yield yourself entirely up to His discipline, and He will teach you to profit.

Therefore, away with this fear! Look into your Saviour’s breast; mercy is all that is written there. The forgiveness of sins through His precious blood plants a holy fear of God in the heart, a reverence that casts out the servile dread which torments. When you know you are forgiven, you are moved to serve with a willing mind. So begin. Do not wait for a feeling of purpose; arise and do the next duty, trusting the Lord to meet you in the doing. Even if you stumble, even if you have deserted your post, come to Christ, He will receive you graciously. He who sustains the pillars of the earth shall hold you up. Fear not.

Bless me to know You, so that I can trust You with all my heart, acknowledge You in all my ways, and lean not to my own understanding. Bless me with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in all You have called me to do.

God heal me in every area of my life. Deliver and cleanse me of everything in my life that doesn't honor You. Transform and renew my mind. Bless me with love, power, and a sound mind. You speak of laziness and a broken heart. Let this very brokenness be your offering. The sacrifice that pleases God is a contrite spirit; a crushed and humbled heart He does not despise. But see to it that this sorrow does not become a bed of sloth. Despair will only gall the sore and make your lameness worse. The physician is at hand, but He bids you rise and walk. Even a limping step straightens the joint. It is in your power to be healed, if you will not lie still.

You have great dreams, you say, and a mighty God. Then why does the runner sit by the track? The prize is before you, but it demands the discipline of an athlete and the watchfulness of a soldier. That laziness which overwhelms you is a wild passion, an unruly horse that must be brought under the yoke of reason. The charioteer is your mind, illumined by grace but you must take up the reins. Do not gaze upon the whole course and grow faint. The blast of fear and the whirlwind of listlessness call for a vigorous soul, but that vigor is stirred by a single obedient act. Begin with one small thing. Open the book, bend the knee, set your hand to the task. The kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.

You feel buried alive by your own weakness. So too did the Apostle groan under the weight of his body, yet he pressed on toward the high calling. Let your tears water not self-pity but holy resolve. Shake off the dust, take up your bed this brokenness offered gladly and walk straight toward the prize. Christ Himself trained His chosen ones through trials and terrors, making them champions of the whole world. He does the same with you. Cease measuring your strength; lean upon His, and move.

When you feel adrift, overwhelmed, and paralyzed by the very dreams you long to pursue, the root of the struggle often traces back to where you have placed your fear. You are troubled by a lack of purpose, but purpose is never found by looking harder at yourself or by mustering enough resolve. Purpose begins with the fear of the Lord. That reverential awe is not a phobia that makes you cower; it is the starting place of all true knowledge and wisdom. Without it, a man gropes through life aimlessly, knowing neither why he was made nor where he is headed. But you were not created by accident. God fashioned you with an eternal purpose, and that purpose is not lost just because your feelings have become clouded.

The fear of the Lord is to hate evil. That means you are not meant to merely feel sorry about laziness and lack of discipline; you are called to turn from them as an enemy. When you indulge the flesh and let idleness rule your hours, you are despising the wisdom that God freely offers. And that same reverential fear carries a promise: it will be health to your body and strength to your bones. The brokenness you describe, that sense of feeling unable to move, often lifts when you first bow your heart in holy fear and deliberately step away from what God calls evil.

You mentioned being afraid of studying or not knowing how to start, and that fear has become a prison. Remember that fear and faith are mutually exclusive. When fear is allowed to take hold, faith departs, and wrong movements follow. The enemy would love to keep you in a state of reaction, always paralyzed by what might be required of you. But God has not given you a spirit of fear. Nehemiah refused to let the threats of his adversaries drive him into hiding, because he remembered the Lord. That is always the cure for fear. When you keep the Lord before your eyes, you gain the confidence that He will keep your foot from being taken. Your big dreams will remain only wishful thinking until they are anchored in that steady remembrance of His presence.

Consider Paul in the storm. The ship was breaking apart, all hope of being saved was gone, and the crew was filled with despair. Yet God had a purpose that the waves could not overturn. Paul was going to Rome to bear witness, and that purpose stood firm because God’s counsel cannot be disannulled. Your life is no less guided. That sense of aimlessness is not a sign that God has forgotten you; it is often an invitation to stop leaning on your own understanding and to start seeking His kingdom first, trusting that all else will be added in due time.

Discipline feels impossible when you are trying to muscle through in your own strength. But the same God who calls you to holiness also supplies the power. Athletes impose strict training on their bodies to gain a wreath that withers; how much more should we, who are promised an imperishable crown, bring our bodies into subjection? Start where you are, not where you wish you were. A single hour given to prayer and the Word is worth more than a day of anxious paralysis. As you honor the Lord with the firstfruits of your time and energy, He will establish the work of your hands.

And when you pray, do not give up. Zacharias prayed for a son year after year, and the answer seemed delayed until the very moment God’s larger purpose was unfolding. The delay was not denial; it was the Lord shaping a desire into something holy. In the same way, sometimes God holds back our sense of direction until we are ready to say, “Not my will, but Yours be done.” He has saved you for this: that you might serve Him without fear, in holiness and righteousness all your days. That is the purpose that can sustain you in the darkest night and the roughest storm.

Do not wait for the feelings to align before you obey. Fear the Lord, depart from evil, and take one concrete step of discipline today. As you do, you will discover that His purpose was never hidden far off. It was waiting for you right where the reverential fear of God begins.
