The fishers of men, primarily referring to the apostles Peter and Andrew, were called by Jesus to follow Him and become His disciples. In the Gospel of Matthew 4:18-22, Jesus saw Simon (Peter) and his brother Andrew casting a net into the sea, as they were fishermen. He called them, saying, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." Andrew, who was with Simon, heard this and immediately followed Jesus. Then Andrew brought Simon to Jesus, and Jesus looked at Simon and said, "You are Simon the son of John; you shall be called Cephas" (which means Peter).
This calling had a profound impact on their personal lives. They left their livelihoods as fishermen and followed Jesus, which meant a significant change in their daily routines and responsibilities. Their commitment to Jesus led them to become central figures in the early Christian church, spreading His teachings and performing miracles. This calling also brought them into close companionship with Jesus, experiencing His teachings, miracles, and ultimately His crucifixion and resurrection. Their personal lives were transformed as they dedicated themselves to the mission of spreading the Gospel, often facing persecution and challenges for their faith.
