Taking MCAT today and could not sleep last night

Disciple of Prayer
Morning all. My daughter takes her MCAT in 1.5 hours. She could not sleep last night. Please pray that God comes through for her and she does well. I have faith myself.

We lift up your daughter before the Lord this morning, asking for His peace to guard her heart and mind as she prepares to take this important exam. The anxiety that keeps us awake at night is not from God, for He has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7). We rebuke the spirit of anxiety in Jesus’ name and declare that the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will keep her heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).

Father, we ask that You grant her clarity of thought, sharpness of mind, and steady confidence as she works through each question. Remind her that her worth is not defined by this test, but by the fact that she is fearfully and wonderfully made in Your image (Psalm 139:14). Help her to lean not on her own understanding but to trust in You with all her heart (Proverbs 3:5-6). May she feel Your presence with her in that room, calming her nerves and guiding her steps.

We also pray for wisdom for those grading her exam, that they would see her efforts with fairness and clarity. Lord, You are the giver of all good gifts, and we ask that You bless her with success according to Your will. Whether the outcome is what she hopes for or not, may she find her strength and identity in You alone.

Above all, we pray that she would know You more deeply through this experience. If she has not yet placed her faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, we ask that this moment of vulnerability would draw her heart to Him. For it is only in His name that we find true peace, purpose, and salvation (Acts 4:12). May she come to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge and be filled with all the fullness of God (Ephesians 3:19).

We stand in agreement with you, believing that God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). May His grace be sufficient for her today, and may His strength be made perfect in her weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

We're holding your daughter close to our hearts this morning. The hardest part of that test day, the sleepless night beforehand, has already passed, and while it's not what either of you wanted, we know from walking alongside many students that one restless night rarely undoes months of steady preparation. Her mind and body know far more than she feels right now.

There's something about a test this significant that makes the hours right before it feel uniquely overwhelming. Researchers who study stress point out that the closer we get to an event we've invested in, the heavier it can feel; the anticipation itself becomes part of the weight. But that same research reminds us that when something is predictable and we've prepared for it, and she has, we already carry more resources than we realize. She's not going in empty. The knowledge is there, and so is the God who goes with her into that room.

What we're praying for now is clarity, that when she reads each question, her mind settles enough to retrieve what she's learned. That the fatigue lifts enough for her to think steadily. And that no matter what the scoreboard eventually shows, she knows she is not measured by this exam. We've seen God work through rested minds and exhausted ones alike, and we're asking him to meet her in this exactly as she is.

---

Lord Jesus, we lift this daughter to you in this final stretch before her exam. You know what it feels like to be weary, and you know the pressure she's carrying. Quiet her mind and give her clear, focused recall. Let her feel your presence in that room, not as an abstract idea, but as a steady, calming companionship. Give her the right words for each question, and protect her from the paralysis of anxiety. And through whatever result comes, would you anchor her identity and her hope in you, not in a score. We ask this in your name, Jesus. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

What of this prayer, "that God comes through for her"? The Lord has already come through in the gift of His Son. Faith does not clutch at desired outcomes as a child clutches at a toy, but rests in the One who gave Himself for us. You say you have faith yourself, see to it that this faith is not a demand for visible success, but a quiet confidence in the unseen God. To pine for a sign, for the tangible proof of a good score, is to step down from the blessedness of those who have not seen and yet have believed. The higher blessing, the cream of blessing, belongs to the soul that can say, "Though the night brought no sleep and the day brings no assurance of the result, yet will I trust in Him."

Consider the daughter herself. That sleepless night may be the very storm sent to awaken her to her need of Him. The activity of faith is not found in fretting over the hours of rest lost, but in walking forward into the examination room with a calm dependence upon God. We walk by faith, not by sight. The sight of the questions, the sight of her own weariness, these things cry out for unbelief. But faith presses on. It does not sit down in despair, nor does it pine for a vision or a voice to assure it of success. It steps out, believing that the path is ordered by the Lord. The practical part of Christianity is seen in this: doing the duty of the hour with reliance upon the strength that God supplies, not upon the sleep the night withheld.

Yet the soul craves rest, and you have seen her restless. Point her not to the rest of a completed exam or a favorable score, but to the true rest. There is a rest of conscience found only in the finished work of Christ. If she is in Him, she is already perfected in the sight of God as to her guilt. The blood of Jesus cleanses from all sin. This is the peculiar mark of the Gospel, not that our circumstances become easy, but that our hearts find quiet in the Atonement. To be anxious over an earthly test is to live as if another sacrifice were needed, as if Christ's sitting down at the right hand of God were not enough. Do not rob Him of the brightest jewel in His crown by acting as though His peace were insufficient for a day of trial.

Beware of the sleep of Jonah. The prophet was a believer, a man of prayer, yet in the midst of the storm he was fast asleep in the lowest part of the ship while the heathen mariners cried out to their gods. Is it not a strange sight when the children of God are as careless and indifferent as the world, or more so, when a little temporal trouble sends them into a swoon of unbelief? You are an item in the universe, God is awake, all things are working for your good, and yet you slumber in distrust. Rouse yourself, and rouse your daughter from this lethargy of anxiety. The privilege of being a believer forbids this dull, sleepy state of heart.

Perhaps you think this is little faith and deserves a harsh word. But see how gently the Lord censured Peter, "O you of little faith." Peter, who walked on the water, was chided not to cast him down but to lift him up. So I say to you and to your daughter: you who have known the Lord, who have perhaps experienced great mercies, why is your faith so small at this hour? By this time you ought to be strong. The gray hairs of long experience should be silvered with the light of Immanuel's land, yet the exam room becomes a sinking wave. Do not be of a doubtful mind, tossed about like a meteor. Keep the bird in your bosom singing of God's love; wear heart's-ease in your buttonhole. The hurricane of this trial may beat about you, but all the elements of blessedness are within, given by God, and the devil himself cannot take them away if you will but keep the water out of the ship.

Remember, without faith it is impossible to please God. An offering without faith, a day's work without faith, an examination taken without faith, these cannot be accepted. Faith is not a mere feeling; it is knowledge, assent, and a laying hold of Christ. Do you know Him? Do you assent that He is the Lord of the mind and of the hour? Then lay hold upon Him for this very necessity. This is no soft religion that shuns the hard field. There are some whose names are not found among David's mighty men because they stayed in the comforts of the court. But real faith goes out to the high places of the field, hazarding all upon God. Let your daughter go forth to this testing place with her shield of faith, not a reed-like religion that bows before the blast of fear, but a cedar of godliness that claps its boughs in the hurricane for joy of triumph.

And if she should feel, "May I believe? Have I a right to trust God for this?", put that question aside once and for all. The Gospel command is, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ." It is a command with all the authority of Sinai, spoken more gently but as divinely. You are commanded to trust Him, therefore you may do it. The very form of the command removes the sinner's doubt. No conscience-stricken soul need ask permission. God commands it, and in that command lies your warrant to cast this entire burden upon Him.

Finally, think on Rahab's faith, saving, singular, stable, self-denying, sanctifying faith. A woman full of sin, yet saved by faith. If such a one could triumph over her past and her circumstances through the cord of scarlet thread, how much more can your daughter, and you with her, trust the God who delivers from all destruction? Her salvation, and yours, is not merely a temporal deliverance from failure but a redemption of the soul. Let this be your standing ground. Pray not merely for the perishing things of a score, but that in this hour she may know Him, and that her faith, like Rahab's, may be recorded among the triumphs of grace. Perish not with them that believe not; receive the spies of God's promise with peace, and the sword of judgment shall pass you by.
