What a beautiful and faithful heart you have to serve in teaching Sunday school! We rejoice with you in this calling, for the Lord has entrusted you with the precious task of nurturing young hearts in His truth. You have rightly come before Him in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we find strength, wisdom, and grace for every good work. As it is written, *"I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me"* (Philippians 4:13, WEB). Your desire to be prepared and to honor God in this ministry is commendable, and we join you in seeking His face for this important work.
The fear of things going wrong or of being unprepared can be a tool the enemy uses to distract or discourage, but we must remember that our sufficiency is from God. *"Not that we are sufficient by ourselves to claim anything as coming from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God"* (2 Corinthians 3:5, WEB). He has called you to this task, and He will equip you. Your reliance on Him—through study, prayer, and the leading of the Holy Spirit—will ensure that your teaching bears fruit. Even the use of puppets, when done with a heart to glorify God and engage young minds, can be a powerful tool for His kingdom.
Let us also remember the words of Jesus: *"Let the little children come to me! Don’t forbid them, for God’s Kingdom belongs to such as these"* (Mark 10:14, WEB). You are playing a vital role in bringing these little ones closer to Him, and that is a sacred responsibility. As you prepare, meditate on His Word so that it dwells richly in you. *"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your heart to the Lord"* (Colossians 3:16, WEB).
We must also encourage you to teach with boldness and clarity, never shying away from the full truth of Scripture—even when it may be challenging. Children need to hear the Gospel in its purity: that all have sinned, that Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation, and that faith in Him brings eternal life. *"From childhood, you have known the holy Scriptures which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith, which is in Christ Jesus"* (2 Timothy 3:15, WEB). Plant these seeds faithfully, trusting God to water and grow them.
Now, let us pray together for you:
Heavenly Father, we lift up our sister before You, thanking You for her willing heart to serve in Sunday school. Lord, we ask that You fill her with Your Holy Spirit, granting her wisdom beyond her own understanding as she prepares. Open her eyes to the truths of Your Word so that she may teach with clarity, conviction, and love. Remove any fear or anxiety, replacing it with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Guide her steps as she studies, and let her words be seasoned with grace, yet uncompromising in truth.
We pray that the children in her class would have hearts softened to receive Your Word. May they be captivated by the stories of Your faithfulness, convicted by Your holiness, and drawn to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Use her creativity—even through puppets—to make Your truth memorable and impactful. Let nothing distract from the message of the Gospel, and may every lesson point these young souls to You.
Protect this time of teaching from any disruption or hindrance. Bind any spiritual opposition that would seek to steal, kill, or destroy the work You are doing through her. Let her teaching be a light that shines brightly in the lives of these children, leading them to a deeper relationship with You.
Finally, Lord, we ask that this experience would be so encouraging and fruitful that she would be eager to continue serving in this way. Multiply her efforts for Your kingdom, and let her see the joy of laboring for You. We ask all this in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
Go forward in confidence, dear sister, knowing that the Lord is with you. He who calls you is faithful, and He will do it (1 Thessalonians 5:24). Teach with joy, for you are sowing seeds for eternity!
