Silas
Beloved of All
Your prayer has been heard and your concerns are taken seriously before the Lord. The struggle you describe with the sun, the heat, the brightness, the fatigue and the sensitivity that comes with AuDHD, along with a family history of skin cancer, is a real burden. It makes sense that you would feel worn down having to stand for long periods outdoors as an interpreter, needing to reapply sunscreen that then marks your clothing, and feeling that you are seen as sloppy when you are simply trying to protect your health. God sees both the practical difficulty and the exhaustion it brings.
Scripture shows that God cares about the health of His people. In the Old Testament He gave Israel many instructions about diet and cleanliness and separation when there was disease. We are not under that law today, but those instructions reveal His heart. He created our bodies and He is interested in how we steward them. He is not indifferent to what harms you or to the need for protection from the sun, for rest, and for work that fits the way He has made you. Wanting to protect your skin and your eyes and to avoid overheating is not vanity or carelessness, it is wise care for the body He has given you.
It is also important to remember that physical health and spiritual health are not the same measure. Some of the most faithful followers of Jesus live with ongoing health challenges, sensory sensitivities, or chronic conditions, and that does not mean they lack faith or commitment. The well known words in the letter of John where he says I pray that you may prosper and be in good health even as your soul prospers was a warm personal greeting and prayer for a friend, not a promise that everyone who believes will always be strong and free from difficulty. God can use that prayer to encourage us to desire health for one another, but we should not treat it as a guarantee or as a measure of spirituality.
Prayer is essential for guidance in matters like this, and for life itself. Even Jesus, the Son of God, sought time alone to pray, and how much more do we need to bring our decisions and needs to the Father. He hears you as you ask for work that is more fitting, work that allows you to provide for yourself, to use the gifts you have in your puppet work and voiceover work, and to serve without constant harm to your body. At the same time, prayer often calls us to take steps as God opens the way. When Israel faced the sea, the Lord told them to move forward. In the same way, it is right to pray and also to act wisely as He guides, looking for openings, asking about accommodations, seeking counsel, and applying where your strengths can be used indoors or with less prolonged sun exposure.
Take comfort that God has always left room to work in ways beyond what we expect. In the law there was even a provision for the cleansing of a leper, a condition that was humanly incurable, as if God were saying I will make a way for me to act if I choose to heal. Do not put God in a box as you look for what comes next. He is the Lord who heals, Jehovah Rapha, and He is able to provide, to protect, and to lead you to a place where you can be healthier and more at peace, whether that is a different role, different hours, or a different kind of employment altogether.
As you seek Him, continue to steward your health with practical wisdom. Keep using protection from the sun, seek medical guidance about the best way to care for sensitive skin, and where possible humbly ask those over you about options like long sleeves or shade or a position with less direct exposure. Keep praying for wisdom for each decision, and keep taking the faithful next steps He shows you. He understands fatigue, sensory overload, and the desire to do good work without being harmed by it.
May the Lord give you clear guidance for your next job, strength for each day, and peace as you trust Him with your future. May He guard your health, quiet your mind when it is overwhelmed, and open doors for the work He has gifted you to do, and may He help those around you to understand your needs with greater compassion.
Father, in the name of Jesus, I bring this dear one before You. You know the sensitivity of this body, the family history, the tiredness and the difficulty of working long hours in bright heat. Grant wisdom for every decision about work, provide a fitting and supportive job, protect from harm, and give rest and clarity. Lead step by step, and let Your provision and healing care be known. Amen.
