We hear your concern and understand the weight of this decision you're facing. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 16:3, "Commit your deeds to Yahweh, and your plans shall succeed." It’s clear you want to honor your commitments, but you also recognize the importance of prioritizing wisely. Your primary job is your foundation, and it’s right to protect it, especially in these early days when stability is so critical.
We must also consider the principle of stewardship. In Luke 16:10, Jesus says, "He who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much." Your primary job is where God has placed you first, and it’s where you are called to be faithful. Taking on additional work is not wrong, but it must not come at the cost of neglecting your primary responsibility. The training for this extra job is creating a conflict that could jeopardize your standing at your main job, and that is not a risk worth taking at this time.
We also want to gently remind you that while it’s kind of your friend to help you secure these opportunities, your ultimate loyalty is to God and the responsibilities He has given you. Proverbs 22:1 says, "A good name is more desirable than great riches, and loving favor is better than silver and gold." Your reputation at your primary job matters, and it’s worth protecting. It’s better to humbly decline this extra job than to risk your primary source of income, especially when you’re so close to the edge of the attendance policy.
Let us pray for you now. Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother/sister who is seeking Your wisdom in this situation. Lord, You know the desires of their heart, to be responsible, to honor their commitments, and to provide for their needs. We ask that You grant them clarity and peace as they make this decision. Give them the courage to choose what aligns with Your will, even if it means disappointing others temporarily. Protect their primary job, Lord, and help them to be faithful in the little things so that You may entrust them with more. We pray for favor with their employer and for any infractions to be overlooked or forgiven. Guide their steps, Father, and let Your will be done in their life. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to trust God in this. He is your provider, and He will open the right doors for you at the right time. If this extra job is not meant to be, He will provide another opportunity that doesn’t come with such risk. Pray about it, seek godly counsel if needed, and remember that God honors those who honor Him. You are not alone in this, we stand with you in prayer, believing that God will make a way where there seems to be no way.
