Faithful Servant
I posted this recently: "I was recently hired at a new job. My friend got me two more jobs as extra income. However, one of these jobs, the training is going to interfere with my shift at my primary job which I would like to primarily depend on for income. My primary job has a strict attendance policy especially in the first sixty days of employment. We are only allowed three combined absences or tardies. I already had one infraction that was out of my control due to my HOA doing work on my home that caused me to have to call off work but then come in late (I work from home). I am weighing whether or not it is worth it to come in late to my primary job to make this training for the extra job. I don't want to disappoint my friend because she got me the job but I also don't want to risk my primary job in any way. With coming in late to the primary job, I'll have two infractions and can only get one more and then I could be fired. I'm thinking what if an emergency happens that's more important than this training and then I can't get off because I have two infractions already? Please pray about this." Please pray for me to have wisdom about this situation. Thank you.

We hear your concern and understand the weight of this decision resting on your shoulders. The Bible tells us in James 1:5, "But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." You are right to seek the Lord’s guidance in this matter, for He alone knows the path that will lead to His perfect will for your life.

First, we must acknowledge that work is a gift from God, and He calls us to steward it with integrity and diligence. Colossians 3:23-24 reminds us, "And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ." Your primary job is where the Lord has placed you for this season, and it is wise to prioritize it, especially during this critical probationary period. The training for the additional job, while well-intentioned by your friend, poses a risk to your standing in the job the Lord has provided as your primary source of income. We must ask: is this extra income worth potentially jeopardizing the stability God has given you?

Proverbs 22:3 says, "A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it." You have already recognized the danger in this situation, two infractions leave little room for unforeseen circumstances, and life is full of them. The Lord does not call us to live in a state of constant risk or anxiety but to walk in wisdom and peace. It may be difficult to disappoint your friend, but honoring the commitments you have made to your primary employer is honoring God. You can explain to your friend with kindness and gratitude that while you appreciate the opportunity, you must prioritize the job the Lord has already provided for you.

We also want to encourage you to trust in God’s provision. In Matthew 6:31-33, Jesus tells us, "Therefore don’t be anxious, saying, ‘What will we eat?’, ‘What will we drink?’ or, ‘With what will we be clothed?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." The Lord knows your needs, and He will provide for you as you seek Him first. It is not wrong to desire extra income, but it should never come at the cost of your peace, integrity, or the job He has already given you.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, seeking Your wisdom and guidance for our brother/sister in this situation. Lord, You know the desires of their heart and the practical needs they face. We ask that You would grant them clarity and peace as they make this decision. Give them the courage to choose what aligns with Your will, even if it means disappointing others. Father, we pray that You would protect their primary job, the one You have provided for them, and that You would bless their efforts there. Help them to work as unto You, with diligence and integrity.

Lord, we also ask that You would provide for any financial needs they have. If this extra job is not Your will, we pray that You would open doors for other opportunities that do not compromise their standing or peace. Give them contentment in Your provision and trust in Your timing. Father, we rebuke any spirit of anxiety or fear in this situation. Remind them that You are their Provider and that You hold their future in Your hands. May they seek You first in all things, knowing that You will add all that they need.

We thank You, Lord, for Your faithfulness and for hearing our prayer. We trust in Your goodness and ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

In closing, we encourage you to lay this decision before the Lord and wait on Him. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." You have already shown wisdom by recognizing the potential pitfalls in this situation. Now, trust that the Lord will direct your steps as you seek Him. If this extra job is not the right fit, He will provide another way. Walk in faith, and He will not fail you.

Oh, we’re praying with you about this, and we can feel the tension in your heart right now. It’s so hard to weigh what feels like a kind gesture from a friend against the stability of the job God has already placed you in. You’re carrying a lot, loyalty, gratitude, and the fear of losing something that’s already been so important to you.

Let’s ask God to give you the words to talk to your friend about this. Maybe there’s a way to honor her kindness without putting your primary job at risk. And if this extra training isn’t meant to be, we’re praying God opens up other doors for you, maybe even better ones that won’t leave you feeling like you’re walking on eggshells.

We’re also praying for peace in your heart. Right now, it feels like every choice leads to something, either disappointing your friend or risking your job. But we know God doesn’t want you to live in that kind of stress. He’s your Provider, and He sees the bigger picture. Maybe this is a test of your trust in Him, showing you that He’ll supply what you need when you need it.

Lord, help this person to see this situation through Your eyes. Give them the courage to stand firm in what’s right for their primary job, knowing that You’ll bless their efforts there. And if this extra job isn’t Your will, show them another way to meet their needs. We’re praying for contentment in Your provision and trust in Your timing. In Jesus’ name, we believe.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.

I recently started a new job. I would like this job to be my primary source of income. I really love it and the people but it does have a bad reputation of being strenuous, strict about tardies and absences and strict about having to meet certain sale metrics (it's not a sales job but that is...
