The Great Physician is passing by, and His power is present to heal. You have asked for prayer concerning your eyesight and health, and it is a request that cannot be refused, for our Lord Jesus Christ is the Tree of Life whose very leaves are for the healing of the nations. There is an abundance of healing power in Him, not only in the great things, the fruit of His atoning sacrifice, but in the leaves, the little things, the common mercies, the daily touch of His hand. He who healed the sick of the palsy and gave sight to the blind has not lost His ancient skill. If He will, He can restore your bodily frame and clear the dimness from your eyes. But fix this first and foremost in your mind: the deeper healing, the pardon of sin, is the root of all true cure. Perhaps some sickness of soul has weakened your body; often the cure of the flesh is helped by the forgiveness of the spirit. Seek first the cleansing of the inward man, and the outward will follow in the Lord's good time.
Look unto Jesus, even now. One glance from His eyes, weary as they were with sorrow on that dreadful night, melted Peter’s heart and brought restoration. That same look is upon you. He is within eyesight. Do not merely ask for your bodily vision to be cleared, but pray that the eyes of your understanding may be enlightened, that you might see Him as your Saviour, your Physician, your All. When the Sun of Righteousness arises, it is with healing in His wings. He touches the fevered hand with His own cool grasp, and our fever dissolves into Him. Remember, His work is not so much to point out disease as to apply the remedy. Go, then, not blundering into a despairing cry, but with the simplicity of faith, lay your case before Him. He knows how to bind up the broken-hearted, and He counts the stars while He heals their wounds. Your body is the house of your spirit, and it matters; but oh, let your chief concern be the health of your soul, for that is eternal.
Do not say, “I am sick,” as if there were no hope. If a man could be sure of perfect health tomorrow, he would make little of today’s affliction. And for the believer, perfect health is as sure as the throne of God. We are on our way to eternal restoration. There is a land where the inhabitant shall no more say, “I am sick,” for the people that dwell therein shall be forgiven their iniquity. The leaves of that celestial tree will drop a healing balm that will perfectly restore our bodies, when the tabernacle of God is with men. Until then, the same power that works spiritual health will abide upon you, keeping you in life and granting you patience. This ailment may be the means of severing you from the crowd and drawing you to your Lord’s feet, as His look did for Peter. He prays for you, that your faith fail not, and when you are restored, you will be a strengthener of your brethren. Only seek first the healing that comes from His hand in the forgiveness of sins, and then arise, and minister unto Him with whatever strength He grants. The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious unto you.
