Your desire to be strong in the Lord is itself pleasing to Him, for without faith it is impossible to please God, and He delights when His children put their trust in Him.
True strength does not come from trying harder in your own power or from keeping a set of rules. It comes by faith in Jesus Christ, trusting His grace and His finished work. God counts that faith as righteousness and sees you in Christ. That relationship is not based on your own steadiness, because even when your faith wavers, He remains faithful who has promised. Like Sarah, you can receive strength as you judge Him faithful to keep His word.
Being strong in the Lord does not always mean immediate victory over every difficulty. At times faith will sustain you through suffering rather than remove it, and it takes greater faith to trust Him when you do not understand the circumstances. He sometimes allows you to feel hemmed in so that you will learn to cry out to Him and see His power, as Israel did when there was no way forward except the Lord's deliverance. The eyes of the Lord still look throughout the earth to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are fully toward Him.
You can grow in that strength by keeping your eyes on the Lord and on His promises, and by giving Him glory before you see the answer. That is what it means to be strong in faith, to praise Him on the basis of His word alone. David began his life trusting the Lord when he faced the giant, and he was still trusting Him when he was old and gray. He did not turn to his own wealth or strength, but continued to say, I will go in the strength of the Lord God. Scripture says the Lord is the strength of your life, whom shall you fear, and that He will hide you in His shelter in the time of trouble. Wait on the Lord, be of good courage, and He will strengthen your heart. He will give strength to His people and bless His people with peace.
We pray that the Lord will strengthen you today by His Spirit, that you will abound in Christ to the glory of God, stand fast in Him, and find your heart established and at peace as you trust His faithful promises.
