Strong in the lord

We hear your heart's cry to be strong in the Lord and we join with you in this desire, for it is a good and godly desire that honors Him.

To be strong in the Lord does not mean to be strong in ourselves, for our own strength will fail us. True strength comes only as we abide in Christ and rely on His might. We are reminded in Ephesians 6:10 to be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of his might. And again in Philippians 4:13, we can do all things through Christ, who strengthens us. This strength is not of the flesh but of the Spirit, for God didn't give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control as it says in 2 Timothy 1:7.

We want to encourage you that this strength is built daily as we put on the whole armor of God, as described in Ephesians 6:11, so that we may stand against the schemes of the devil. It comes through spending time in His Word, through prayer, through worship, and through fellowship with other believers. When we feel weak, that is the very moment His strength is made perfect, for He gives power to the weak and to him who has no might he increases strength in Isaiah 40:29.

We also notice you said Lord, and we want to gently remind us all that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and can be strong in Him. There is no other name by which we can be saved or empowered. As Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And in Acts 4:12 there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If we have not placed our faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, believing that He died for our sins and rose again, we encourage you to do so today, confessing with your mouth and believing in your heart as Romans 10:9 teaches.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, thanking You for this one who desires to be strong in You. We ask that You fill them with Your Holy Spirit and increase their strength according to Your glorious might. Help them to put on Your whole armor each day, to stand firm in faith, rooted and built up in Christ. When they feel faint or weary, remind them of Your promise in Isaiah 41:10, Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Teach them to wait upon You, Lord, that they may renew their strength and mount up with wings like eagles. Guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus, and make them strong and courageous, knowing You are with them wherever they go as You promised in Joshua 1:9. We ask this in the name of Jesus, our strength and our redeemer, amen.

We encourage you to continue to seek Him daily, to meditate on His Word day and night, and to trust that He who began a good work in you will complete it. Be strong and let your heart take courage, for the Lord is your strength and your shield as Psalm 28:7 declares.

We hear how much you want to be strong in the Lord, and we are grateful you shared that desire with us. Wanting that strength is itself a good place to start.

We have found that strength in the Lord rarely comes all at once. It grows gradually, over a lifetime, with highs and lows, as we stay close to Him. It is less like trying hard for a moment and more like training over time, small faithful steps that add up.

A few steady habits tend to shape that growth. Spending time in the Word to hear from God, bringing honest prayers to Him even when words are few, and worshiping alongside other believers where we can be encouraged and remind each other of truth. And we cannot do it on our own. It is the Holy Spirit who makes real growth happen as we stay yielded to Him, using the gifts and strengths He has already placed in you.

If it helps, this week try choosing one simple, doable rhythm. Perhaps ten minutes each morning to read a short passage and pray honestly about what you read, and make a point to gather with other believers this Sunday. Consistency in the small things often builds more strength than big bursts that fade.

Father, we lift our friend to You. Draw them close and make them strong in Your presence. Give them grace for each small step, help them hear Your voice, and fill them with Your Spirit day by day. Lead them in Your will and keep them rooted in Christ. In Jesus' name, amen.

There is no better prayer that you could have brought before the Lord than this, to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. For our own strength is weakness, and to glory in self or to trust in the flesh is to build upon the sand, but to glory only in the Lord is to stand upon the rock.

This strength is not worked up within yourself, but is received by faith. As the Apostles cried, Lord, increase our faith, so must we pray still. Faith is to trust, to lean upon Christ as a child leans upon its mother's arms, to rest the whole weight of your soul upon Him. When faith is increased, strength is increased. And the joy of the Lord is your strength. When you abide in Him and maintain fellowship with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ, when you think over all the Lord has done and especially how He has displayed His glory in the covenant of grace and in the person of Christ, then joy springs up and fortifies you against temptation and keeps your heart fixed, trusting in the Lord. As the light of joy varies so does the warmth of holy strength.

Therefore I would have you rest in the Lord. He does not call you to fret and hurry, but to trust and delight and then to rest. The man who is full of joy within is quiet, he bides his time and dwells in the fulness of his strength. Glory growingly in the Lord as you know more of Him by revelation, and you shall find that He will perfect that which concerneth you.

Let us pray together for you.

O Lord our God, we ask Thee to increase the faith of this Thy servant. Give a firm recumbency upon Christ, a holy joy in Thy presence, and a quiet rest in Thy will. Let this soul abide in Christ and bring forth fruit, and let the joy of the Lord be its strength in every place, in the chamber and in the daily calling, against every temptation and in every trial. Keep this one from trusting in self, and make strong in Thy power, that Christ may be honored and the Gospel proved in this life. Forsake not the work of Thine own hands, but perfect that which concerneth Thy child, for Jesus sake. Amen.
