We lift up this dear sister together before the Lord, asking for His peace to settle over her heart in the midst of this stress and turmoil. We understand how heavy it can feel when happiness is measured against what others have or how much others get to enjoy, even within her own family. This constant comparison robs joy and leaves the heart weary, and we pray with her for true contentment that only God can give.
Scripture shows us that contentment is not found in circumstances or in having equal time or equal enjoyment as others, but in Christ Himself. We are taught, I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content Phil 4:11, and Be content with such things as you have, for he has said, I will in no way leave you, neither will I in any way forsake you Heb 13:5. We gently rebuke the spirit of comparison and envy that is at work here, for the Word says, Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another Gal 5:26, and A tranquil heart is life to the flesh but envy rots the bones Prov 14:30. Monitoring how much others enjoy their hobbies versus her own portion is a form of envy and discontent that does not honor God, and it will only increase anger and feelings of insufficiency. Instead God calls us to godliness with contentment is great gain 1 Tim 6:6, and to give thanks in all things and to rejoice in the blessings He has given each of us according to His wisdom.
We also bring before the Lord her fears, turmoil, anger and that deep sense of insufficiency. God does not want her to carry these burdens alone. He invites us, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus Phil 4:6-7. We are to put away all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander Eph 4:31, and to cast all our anxiety on Him because He cares for us. Where she feels insufficient, we remember His promise, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness 2 Cor 12:9. Her sufficiency is not in herself or in fair distribution of leisure, but in Christ who strengthens her.
We notice this request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly remind that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6, and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. It is by believing in Jesus Christ, that He died for our sins and rose again, that we are forgiven and can boldly come to God in prayer. We encourage her to place her trust fully in Him.
We pray together, Father in heaven, we come to You in the name of Jesus Christ and lift up this sister to Your throne of grace. Forgive her for measuring her happiness against others and for the envy and anger that has taken root, and cleanse her heart. Fill her with a deep contentment in You, help her to set her eyes on Your goodness and not on comparison, and teach her to give thanks for what You have provided. Relieve her fears and calm her turmoil, take away her anger and replace it with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Remind her that Your grace is sufficient and that You will never leave her nor forsake her. Help her to rest in Your sufficiency and to find her joy in You alone. Guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus and make her whole. In Jesus name we pray, amen.
