Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing your heart and allowing me to pray in agreement with you. I join you in bringing both of these needs before the Lord.
Scripture makes a distinction that is so helpful when we pray for peace. First there is peace with God, which comes only through Jesus Christ and what He did for us on the cross. Having made peace through His blood, we are justified by faith, and because of that we have peace with God that does not rise and fall with our performance. It rests on what Christ has done. Then there is the peace of God, that steady keeping of our hearts and minds that Jesus spoke of when He said, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you, not as the world gives. The world cannot understand this peace, and the apostle Peter describes it as a peace that passes all understanding.
That second kind of peace, the peace of God in daily life, is connected to where our mind is stayed. The prophet Isaiah says God will keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is stayed on Him, because that person trusts in Him. Living in a world full of chaos and pressure, that perfect and complete peace comes as we turn our thoughts toward the Lord and trust that He will take care of what concerns us. God wants you to live in that peace. He has ordained peace for His children and offers it as a gift.
So for your work week, I am praying not only for outward calm but for that inward peace to guard your heart as you keep your mind on Christ. May He give you wisdom from above, which is peaceable and brings peace, so that even when tasks are demanding you can work with a quiet heart, with clarity, productivity and accuracy. As you sow peace by trusting Him and walking in His wisdom, you will reap its fruit in your work and relationships.
I also join you in praying for your husband as he drives. I pray the Lord will give him a watchful and self controlled spirit, respect for the laws that are given for protection, and a desire to drive in a way that honors God and loves his neighbor. May God grant him safety and give you both peace as he travels.
Father, thank You for the peace we have with You through Jesus Christ. I ask that You would now fill my brother and sister with Your peace that guards heart and mind. Keep their thoughts stayed on You and help them to trust You with every detail. Grant a week of steady, peaceful and careful work, and grant safety and wisdom on the road. May Your peace rule in their home and lives. In Jesus name, amen.
